Anyone lost their voice with covid?

I'm on day 5 and haven't felt too bad overall - no temperature, just a tickly cough for the first day or two. I've mostly just been really snotty and had a very sore throat, like a bad cold. But this morning my voice has basically disappeared - all I can do is croak and whisper (that went down well with Test & Trace!)

Just wondering whether anyone else had this and how long it lasted?

Not connected to covid, but i lost my voice before and youre not supposed ti whisper as it can be damaging. I had a pen and paper and a text to voice ap. I hope it comes back soon.

Thanks @Fubitch, I'll bear that in mind. I'm not deliberately whispering - most of the time anyway - that's just all that comes out though Sad

Laryngitis is an inflammation of the vocal cords and causes you to lose your voice. It can be caused by all sorts of viruses etc so I can't see why it couldn't be caused by covid.

I had it a few months ago (not covid related) and it took about a week for my voice to come back fully. I couldn't speak at all really when it was at its worst.

You need to rest your voice as much as you can as it makes it worse if you keep trying to speak. Fingers crossed it passes soon!

Thanks, I've had laryngitis with colds before. Honestly, if I hadn't had a positive covid result I would never have guessed that was what it was. It's exactly like a bad cold!

Very few people get it like a bad cold now. Most have high fever and are bedridden.

What is your source for this? Given that a lot of cases are asymptomatic it seems entirely possible, in fact likely, that a large number of cases are fairly mild/cold like.

@Sunshinegirl82 I have conducted research on this on Mumsnet posts. Vast majority of people double jabbed are symptomatic and very unwell, usually more unwell then they've ever felt in their lives, but don't end up in itu. There are virtually no asymptomatic cases after vaccination, possibly because of immune response.

Right. So no real source then.

Any chance that people who have very mild or no symptoms just aren't posting about it on mumsnet?

@Reallybadidea My household has all tested positive this week but no Covid symptoms just bad colds and I can feel my voice disappearing. Certainly not the worst I’ve ever felt, proper flu was worse.

I'm awaiting a PCR test today. I started with cold like symptoms on Sunday and a sore throat. The sore throat has gone but I have no voice whatsoever and a horrendous persistent cough. I've had negative LFT's although I've been advised that LFT's shouldn't be used for symptomatic people now. Apparently the delta strain can cause significant hoarseness without necessarily having a sore throat with it. Hoping for a negative test but can't see it being likely!
