What do you recommend buying, in case of covid?

Just preparing for winter and bugs (usually do this), but just wondering if there's anything that'd be really good to have in just in case we caught covid.

My normal prep includes keeping stocked up so I wouldn't be too worried about food for a week or so. In case we're ill I normally have fruit juice, soup, honey, squash (DH likes when ill), paracetamol, ibuprofen, strepsils, soothers, lemsip and tissues. Is there anything else people who've had covid would recommend?

Have not had the full thread as I'm rushing, but in our area our Dr's surgeries (different ones in different towns) automatically arranged for dh and I to get a pulse oximeter delivered, to borrow for two weeks after positive tests. Dh had one delivered and I assumed it was because he has diabetes and more at risk. Then when I tested positive a few days later I also got a text from my own Dr's with a number to ring to get an oximeter delivered. I didn't, because we already had the one for dh. But worth asking if your local health service is doing similar.
I wouldn't bother with the huge amounts of vitamins people have suggested. They are likely to upset your stomach if you don't already take them, and covid gave both me and dh a dodgy stomach anyway.
I would recommend having plenty of paracetamol, possibly lemsip, and maybe some lucozade or similar.

Can anyone give me a link for a good vitamin C powder?

Like so many things, once you start looking, there is just so much choice!

TiddleTaddleTat · 29/09/2021 13:46

@BigFatBloomers it's not a powder but solgar ester C 1000mg was reasonably priced (ish!) and hasn't been irritating my stomach like my usual ascorbic acid one.

Thanks @TiddleTaddleTat
DD has just tested positive so trying to keep her firing on all cylinders

TiddleTaddleTat · 29/09/2021 15:40

@BigFatBloomers best of luck x

I know you asked about powders @BigFatBloomers but getting vitamin c from food is meant to be much better so hot lemon drinks from fresh lemons will be really good.

TiddleTaddleTat · 29/09/2021 15:59

@DayKay @BigFatBloomers even better, both!

My partner had Covid earlier this year. He was able to eat and drink very little before going into hospital. But I would advise being generally well stocked of food and supplies you would normally have in the house. Consider anxiety too, when he was in hospital, I stopped eating much and survived on yogurt, smoothies, milk, bananas etc. Think of the things you could eat or drink when at an absolute low.
A thermometer, paracetamol, and a sats probe are good things to have. If you are anxious about someone and need to call for help, the readings will be useful. More than that and you need help.
Sorry, op, hope this helps. But with a severe case, there’s not a lot you can get in for the patient, just be well stocked for the rest of the family and phone for help sooner rather than later.
On a more cheerful note, having been told on discharge that the doctors gave him a 50:50 chance of survival on admission, the reprobate lived to tell the tale and devoured a huge portion of fish and chips when he got home!
Two things have just come to me. Pack a hospital bag if you think they will need to go in. I packed clothes, usual meds, a book, biscuits(which he was glad of when better). I forgot shaving things and also magazines, which I posted to him in hospital.
Also, supplies for pets. I had to isolate, Amazon came up trumps for food and litter but it would have been nice just to have them in.

@DayKay I have hot lemon and fresh ginger every morning so I have been making the same for her. She had added turmeric this morning as I thought it might help with achy joints
