Is this positive?

I know this has probably been done a million times but I need some help with this.

DH's test. I see a line, he doesn't. It is hard to see as there is a mark going up the test below.

Left is my negative test for comparison. middle his test from earlier, right a new test for DH that looks negative (but isn't fully cooked yet)

Is this positive?

I can't see a line.

Blossomandbee · 25/09/2021 15:17

I see an extremely faint line on the middle one but we've had a few that look like that recently and a pcr test has confirmed negatives. Worth arranging one just to be on the safe side but I don't think it's a positive.

MissCruellaDeVil · 25/09/2021 15:17

You should disregard the test you think is positive because of the ink run down the middle. If in doubt I'd get a PCR.

Whyarewehardofthinking · 25/09/2021 15:18

I would get a PCR with the middle test. There is a faint line there but with the way the pink has spread it would be classed as void anyway.

I've seen kids come back with both positive and negative PCRs following a LFT identical to the middle one.

PeonyTime · 25/09/2021 15:20

I looked at the picture before reading your message, and thought the middle had a possibility of positive. Given faint positives dont show up well on photos, I'd go for PCR.

FlipFlopFlossy · 25/09/2021 15:25

Thanks all. He's not really convinced but I'm going to try to get him to have a PCR. Just need to find somewhere with petrol so he can actually get there 🤦‍♀️

He tested negative on PCR on monday but I know things could have changed since then

If you ordered a postal PCR, could you walk to a priority post box to drop it off?

FlipFlopFlossy · 25/09/2021 15:36

Yes we could do that. There's one half a mile a way. There are appointments today so if it local petrol station isn't crazy I'll get some petrol and he cash go there. Otherwise we'll get a postal one orderdd

The middle test looks like a void, if he has retested and it is negative and with a recent negative pcr unless he has any symptoms I wouldn't bother.

FlipFlopFlossy · 25/09/2021 16:00

Thanks @Sillysop92 nope no symptoms

We didnt class dye smearing as voids when doing mass testing in school.
And if you scroll most of the way to the bottom of this Gov.uk document they dont seem to think it is a problem.

erictries · 25/09/2021 17:03

That middle one looks like every single lateral flow I've ever done (since I started last January) in the first 5 minutes or so when the liquid is filtering through the device. It usually goes away when the test dries.
I'd say if the vertical line persists, just to disregard the test

FlipFlopFlossy · 25/09/2021 17:18

The test was done this morning so has definitely dried. the vertical smear hasn't dissapeared though
