The instructions seem to have changed in that you used to just do it in their nose but now it looks like they want a swab from the throat too.
There is no way in hell I'll be able to do that and especially not without hitting roof of mouth/tongue or teeth.

There was a link to extra info on how to test kids under 5 but they used a picture of a screaming baby with mouth wide open to be able to swab the tonsils. As if!

I can't imagine anyone able to do this!

it's nose only for little kids.

Ohhh just found a side note in the instructions that says if you can't swab tonsils swab both nostrils instead.

Phew!

Home test while asleep.

Had to do my almost three year old a fortnight ago. It was horrible, but I had a piece of chocolate I popped in her mouth when she first screamed, and I held her head still while I did each nostril - practically a headlock. Really not nice, but over in 30secs. I left her strapped into her car seat while I did the test, then pulled her out for a cuddle and the rest of the chocolate! So glad I didn't have to swab her throat...

Just out of interest, what would be the reason that a 2 year old needs a PCR test?

WoMandalorian · 23/09/2021 15:16

@wasthataburp Nursery needs a negative pcr test on children with symptoms so they can return.
My 2yo had to have one last week as he had a temperature. It was awful as he thrashed about a lot. I thought I would end up poking his brain 😱
Luckily it came back negative but honestly I think next time I'll just isolate him for the 10 days because it was very tricky and stressful on such a small child.

It be able to return to nursery. I'd imagine they are probably one of teh most highly tested age groups due to just how often they get sick at nursery.

I'm surprised to learn it's changed though as I tested my son a week ago and it was still definitely just swabbing one nostril only.

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 23/09/2021 15:21

Yep, it's to go back to nursery.

just to confirm IT HASN'T CHANGED.
I got it wrong!

Please only stock with the nose swabs :)

@FuckingFlumps there was a tiny speech bubble side note saying if you can't do throat and nose then just do nostrils but the results are not as reliable.

Ah that makes sense. I can't imagine how I'd even begin to go about swabbing the back of a toddlers throat so pleased to see its still just the nose.

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 23/09/2021 15:27

Yeah I was really putting off doing it? Nose is much easier :)

@Latenightreader seriously what is wrong with you that you think that’s an ok way to treat your child? People are losing all sense of proportionality.

What is wrong with you that you have to come on to every thread where anyone mentions testing a child and make them feel like shit? You're the one with real issues. What's your agenda?

Oh fuck off, some people do more than that to their kids to brush their teeth!

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 23/09/2021 16:13

@SweetBabyCheeses99 if they need a negative pcr for the child to go back to nursery, what are they meant to do?

It's hardly a big deal it's 30 seconds of being uncomfortable but not hurt.
What's your problem?

Ah ok. Hope your DC is feeling better now!

wasthataburp · 24/09/2021 21:51

To be honest, both my kids are at nursery have they have never asked anyone to do it!
