Teen living with vulnerable adult please can someone help me find out how to get vaccine for them

My 14 yo is due a vaccine at school in mid November.

My dad is having chemo and is moving in with us in a fortnight.

I'm aware that teens living with vulnerable adults are eligible for a vaccine.

However, my GP has emailed me to say they aren't booking vaccines and can't help. They told me too call 119.

119 told me they can't help, and that my GP has to sort it.

I'm going round in circles and have pushed as hard as I can with both GP and 119 but neither will help or tell me what I need to do.

Can anyone offer any advice please?

Hmm. I've done a third primary this week. Had paperwork from the man's haematologist and the correct prescription from the GP so was able to go ahead. In terms of recording, the online system hasn't caught up yet and so I had to fill in a paper form and our admin will upload the new vaccine to the system in due course.

If you end up with a jab and the centre has to complete a paper record, it might be worth asking if you can take photos of the record so that you have evidence if you ever need it.

@freckles20

Thank you all so much for your help. I have contacted My local CGC who have got back to me surprisingly quickly but unfortunately said that vaccinations for his age group age being carried out at school (mid nov) and there is no special provision for young people living with immunosuppressed adults. I know this isn't the case, but I'm not sure how to convince them!
Whatt?? This is ridiculous and infuriatingly ignorant. Can you email them some links. A quick google brings up this from NHS England in August… www.england.nhs.uk/2021/08/one-million-children-and-young-people-can-get-nhs-covid-jab/

OP, ìs your MP any good? If so, maybe try contacting him/her, marking your query as urgent. If e-mailing, include your postal address so that he/she can see you are a constituent.

Criteria is that a child who lives with a immuno suppressed person full time is eligible, this does not apply for people who normally live outside the household who they have regular contact with. Your DF staying with you for 2 weeks does not equate to him living with you permanently. If your df and dc are registered as living at separate addresses they would not qualify for a vaccine on this basis.

@Wellbythebloodyhell I think you have misread the OP. The relative is moving in, in two weeks time not for two weeks. Until you are in this position you don't realise how frightening it is.

In that case, in 2 weeks time when they are all registered as living in the same household the dc will be eligible for the vaccine. As things stand today, them living separately, the dc do not qualify.
It's got nothing to do with me not understanding how frightening the situation is, I am merely confirming the criteria required for 12-15 to be eligible for the covid vaccine. I have every sympathy for their unfortunate situation and anyone else who find themselves in similar circumstances but my sympathy does not change the current guidance set out by the government.

The OP has said that it has been accepted that she can have the vaccine but it doesn't appear to be being offered other than through the school system. This is the case where I live . Ds has been eligible from the start but the GP never got started on them and we have now been told it's school only.

DS (15) had a GP invite last wk, presuming because I’m on immunesuppresents.

That's awful parents are not being offered it from the correct channels. If they have it through school it's likely they'll only get 1 dose whereas they would have been given 2 doses if having it under the immuno suppressed household criteria

But that’s not in accordance with NHS England policy. Surely it’s challengeable?
Bizawit · 25/09/2021 09:53

@Wellbythebloodyhell I think you have misunderstood, if the go accepted, once relative moves in OP would be eligible then that’s one thing. At the moment they seem to be claiming that there’s no special provision at all for children living with immunosuppressed adults. That’s a much more significant barrier/ challenge to overcome.

The oncologist or consultant in charge of the immuno suppressed person could get in touch with the local CCG to try and arrange it and bypass the GP. God only knows why the GP is saying there's no provision for children of immuno suppressed households when clearly there is .

We have a 'concern' in with the CCG. Health are always difficult to challenge about anything because it is very compartmentalised and they all say nothing to do with us. Healthy children are being vaccinated in schools whilst previously shielding children are still waiting.
