What are the chances?

My youngest DS tested positive on an LFT on Monday. I tested him on the off chance as it’s been going round his class, he was asymptomatic but has since lost his sense of smell. Took him (and the rest of the household) for a PCR yesterday, no results yet but I’m assuming he probably will be positive?

Anyway, if he is - what are the actually chances my DH and myself will catch it from him? We are both double jabbed and all I’ve read from official sources suggests that the chances are low….however anecdotally I know lots of people who’ve caught it despite being double jabbed?

My oldest child tested positive two weeks ago. The other five in the house (2 fully vaxxed adults and 3 younger children) did not catch it from him. We all did 2 PCRs and multiple LFTs that were all negative.

x2boys · 22/09/2021 16:44

Actually ignore that, i misread what you wrote apologies @altmember

Snugglemuffins4me · 22/09/2021 16:50

My DD1 ( asymptotic) caught it in preschool along with half her class earlier this month . Our 1 year old , myself and DH ( both double vaccinated ) have stayed negative .

Nearly done our 17 day isolation with our 1 year old incase she starts to show symptoms.

Badgercity · 22/09/2021 16:59

These stories give me hope!! It’s like nits, the second I see the positive test I get a dry scratchy throat and need a lay down!

Lushmetender · 22/09/2021 18:15

Love the nit analogy. I’ve had a headache for over 2 weeks now as keeping up
The vigilance is exhausting! Especially when your kids start feeling well you wonder if they are still infectious! Still only 3 days to go! My experience with the LFTs seems to be all or nothing after symptoms are well on their way. My ds only had a faint line about 9 days in but they say you shouldn’t test

CalmConfident · 22/09/2021 18:20

Sat here in bed after a day resting, double jabbed AZ! DS2 (12) was the first positive, now back at school, DS1 (14) got symptoms a day before me, DH has had 2 negative PCR so far, waiting on one from this morning. DH also double-jabbed but Moderna.

Main initial symptoms here were sore throats

CyclingIsNotOuting · 22/09/2021 18:25

When my DC tested positive no one else in the house got it.
We didn’t isolate them within our house either.
I actually stayed in their bedroom 2 nights as they were so ill and I never got it.

Fingers crossed for you OP.

CalmConfident · 22/09/2021 18:44

It is all so random! We were quite strict, I think DS2 got it from school not his brother.

Take care everyone!

CalmConfident · 22/09/2021 18:45

Sorry that should have says DS 1!

Anon778833 · 22/09/2021 18:46

My daughter’s friend caught covid a few weeks ago and her mum is vaccinated and didn’t get it.

Anon778833 · 22/09/2021 18:48

Otoh my cousin’s son went to get his gcse results and took covid home my cousin and his wife who are both vaccinated. My cousin wasn’t too bad and his wife spent one day in bed.

cttontail · 22/09/2021 19:15

@Badgercity

And now my eldest son has a positive LFT (test for school on Sundays and Wednesdays) despite a negative PCR today! What’s going on?
Register your lateral flow results and test and protect will call to advise. We all had to isolate for 3-5 days before getting a PCR to confirm we hadn't caught it. It seems to slowly ripple through families though, so that really doesn't mean anything until you're 5 days past the last positive test in the household.
RobinPenguins · 22/09/2021 19:18

A couple of my work colleague’s children have had it recently and none of the double vaccinated adults ever ended up testing positive. They were youngish children so didn’t isolate from the rest of the household.

Oysterbabe · 23/09/2021 00:25

My husband had it. None of us caught it from him despite not distancing at all.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 23/09/2021 00:34

@altmember

With Delta, once one person brings it into the household, the rest are almost certain to be be exposed to it (unless your house is big enough to stay completely segregated). If you're really lucky being vaccinated will prevent you from getting infected, but you more than likely will be.
Not true in our case, shared bathroom too.
Redsquirrel5 · 23/09/2021 01:48

DS1 43 double vaccinated had two LFT negative and PCR ( GP) came back positive.

CombatBarbie · 23/09/2021 02:15

@Badgercity

PCR results back for me and oldest DS, negative Smile But nothing yet for youngest DS (who had positive LFT) or DH.
My double jabbed parents. Dad caught it from work. My mum, didn't get any symptoms etc til day 8 of my dad's result but didn't test positive til 5 days later.
HungryHippo11 · 23/09/2021 06:08

My daughter has it, DH and I didn't get it. Although I guess we could have had it before her and been asymptomatic.

Autumngoldleaf · 23/09/2021 07:26

We didn't catch it off little one but big one is feeling ill, awaiting pcr

Onandoff · 23/09/2021 07:41

Me and DH both caught covid with mild symptoms at start of pandemic (confirmed on blood tests - nhs) and are now double vaccinated. We didn’t catch it from DD who had it over the summer, we didn’t bother to isolate from her. We travel in to work on packed tubes each day and neither of us has caught it twice, yet. My antibodies are still off the scale and the original antibodies from infection are still positive (I’m in a research study).

Seymourcrelborne · 23/09/2021 07:55

Both kids primary age in our house had it but both me and my husband have consistently tested negative on PCRs and LTFs and we've had no symptoms. Both kids had symptoms with one of them being very poorly. We are both double vaccinated.

1309username · 23/09/2021 08:12

Awaiting PCR result for my husband and me but I just tested positive on a LFT.

And last night I started feeling rough.

Weird thing is that my husband tested positive on LFT on Sunday and negative PCR on Monday.

But he’s feeling feeling unwell so we took another one yesterday.

I was expecting it though, my daughter is 10 and it’s been hard to stay away from her, although I was wearing a mask most of the time and washing hands a lot.

mamaduckbone · 23/09/2021 09:28

When my ds1 had it in July none of the rest of us caught it. Now I have it and everyone else is ok so far, negative LFTs and postal PCRs arriving today. Hoping ds1 still has some immunity. I'm isolating as best I can, but we only have one bathroom and Dh doesn't seem to get it and keeps coming to talk to me

middleager · 23/09/2021 09:40

Ds and I have Covid, but so far DH snd DS2 don't (pcr results back yest). I started feeling unwell Sunday and DH sat with me all night - we're both bad sleepers so sleep separately in the week to feel fresher for work. He also drove me to the test centre. Pteviously he drove my +ve son there, so confined spaces.

Interesting as DS2 had Covid last year, none of us caught it.

Badgercity · 23/09/2021 15:30

I’ve just had a very very faint positive on an LFT. I had a pcr for work this morning anyway so I’ll keep testing at home and see what that comes back as. Not feeling too bright, but it could all be in my head (plus I worked a night shift last night)
