If your DC tested positive with a PCR test…

How far up their nose did you have to put the swab?
First test for Dc 5 today but she really resisted and I’m not sure how much of a ‘sample’ I actually managed to get.
Worried she may be positive as the symptoms fit but the PCR won’t pick it up

My dd currently waiting another PCR as first was negative but I’m positive and she has all the symptoms. Get another one if unsure and in the meantime lateral flow. My dd is testing positive on LF.

I thought we were not meant to use LF as a reliable means if symptomatic, at least that’s how our council have explained it.
I went to a drive through site but I might be better off ordering a home test and doing it while DD js asleep

Whilst she’s asleep?! She’ll never sleep again when she wakes up to find the person she trusts the most assaulting her intimately. What message does this teach her about consent and bodily integrity/autonomy?

Assuming you’re going to keep a poorly child at home to recuperate, does the test really matter anyway?

Kerplunkk · 22/09/2021 06:21

Well I trim her nails whilst she’s asleep because she won’t let me do them whilst awake, I hardly think putting a swab gently up her nose is going to bother her vs having to pin her down to get the sample while she’s awake so I think your comment is completely unwarranted.
I will keep her home while she’s really poorly but I can hardly take 2 weeks off work/her 2 weeks off school because she has symptoms that could be Covid but could also just be a bad cold

Not very far as he kept flinching. He was fine with the throat swab but didn't do very well with his nostrils. To be honest I can't get it very far up my own nose either! We both tested positive.

@Waxonwaxoff0

Had you done LFT tests 'not very high up' and got positive results?

I don't seem to be able to get very far up & am concerned that the LFT are therefore pointless

Badgercity · 22/09/2021 11:28

My DS (8) got a positive LFT from not very far up at all, I could still see a few millimetres of “fuzzy” but of swab. And that was without throat swab as he absolutely refused to open his mouth. I only tested because it’s in his class and I wanted to check, since then he has lost his sense of smell.

The PCR hasn’t come back yet, but I would say it went about as well as the LFT. I’m not sure it will be a good enough sample for a positive result. If it comes back negative I’m not sure what I’ll do, as he will have a main covid symptom and a positive LFT. Might let the school decide if they want him!

@Badgercity. Thanks for that

If he has symptoms I'd try to book a test where they do it for children.

Ooo is that a thing? That would be great, I’ll see what I can find!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/09/2021 17:20

I did LFT but they were negative. They were negative when I did them on myself as well. Not concerned that it was the technique as we self administered the PCRs and they were positive.
