LFD test - will it be negative if I don't swab?

If I did a test (LFD) and didn't actually swab, but still dipped the swab into the solution and then put it on to the test, would it come up as negative or invalid?

Negative
Is it not only invalid if there is a problem with the test kit itself?

By the way not trying to get a negative result. Just curious, because my son was exposed a few times at but never got it. The LFDs were always negative, so maybe he doesn't swab very well... or at all??

So it very much relies on how efficient the person is at carrying out the test.

Or maybe its because LFT are rubbish and will only pick up about 50% of positive people if they take a test without symptoms

If the swab isn't effectively done then it won't pick up virus particles and the test would be negative

Negative.
You dont need to put the swab in the fluid either - fluid straight onto the test strip works to give a "valid" negative.

Plain water generates an invalid test (or did when I tried).
