Child test 3 days before operation...

Hi dd is being tested today at the hospital.

She is having an operation on Friday.

What happens if she comes into contact and catches it from someone at school Wednesday or Thursday?

I thought she would need to isolate until Friday but hospital haven't said anything.

Will they test her again Friday?

Thank you.

Ask at the test, but without being told I would probably pull my daughter from school from today until Friday. I wouldn’t want her to risk it and school will understand.

Whinge · 21/09/2021 08:30

I'm surprised the hospital haven't said anything. I would tell the school you're isolating in advance of the operation.

ifonly4 · 21/09/2021 08:32

When DD was tested at hospital (she's an adult) she was told she should continue to isolate until her operation - no one had pointed out she should be doing it in the first place! I suspect your DD should be isolating. She didn't have a second test on arrival at hospital, but they went through a list of questions about how she was feeling and contact.

Hi thanks I'm autistic and don't cope with new situations. I didn't think to ask. It just popped into my head today.

I obviously thought to ask today but it's a drive through test. My sister is driving as I don't. As it's so quick I thought I'd probably forget.

I would keep her isolated until Friday, just in case.

RevolvingPivot · 21/09/2021 09:11

Maybe they assume I'll know to keep her off. I need things spelling out to me.

School know she's off this afternoon but back Wednesday and Thursday.

Oh she will drive me mad being home but not ill lol.

I had surgery last week. It was total isolation from the test to arriving at the hospital for the operation. You can't send your daughter to school.

If this for the hospitals benefit or to ensure dd isn't ill and the operation is cancelled or both?

I can't understand why they haven't said she should isolate. What about me and her sister? Should my older dd sleep at my mums?

When I had an op in Covid times, they told me to isolate after the Covid test in the letter about the appointment and also told me again at the drive through test centre.

RevolvingPivot · 21/09/2021 09:21

This op has been rearranged 5 times. Only one of them I was told she had to isolate for and that was probably for the 3rd one.

I think you need to ask the hospital if you all need to isolate. At the drive through, they asked me if anyone in my household was attending school, but I said no so not sure what they would have said otherwise.

If it has been rearraged multiple times already, then I would definitely isolate. It's only 2 days off school and isolating will help to minimise the chances of it being rearranged again.
Fireplace12 · 21/09/2021 09:24

She needs to isolate for three days. The rest of your household doesn’t.

Tinydancer321 · 21/09/2021 09:47

Mr daughter had her tonsils removed in April we had to self isolate (me and her). I did isolate the family too, just to be safe but we had
Waited a long time for the op due to Covid.

I know those are the rules but they don't make sense if someone is going into hospital.

What if we get it and pass it onto her without any of us being aware?

My dc had a test 3 days before being admitted for their op but then had another one the night before when they were admitted to hospital (as planned). We weren't told to isolate in between, though they weren't at school anyway. I did ask about the implications of having covid on the op/recovery if that second one came back negative but they don't seem too concerned in children even after an operation.

Boxme · 21/09/2021 09:58

*came back positive

whatswithtodaytoday · 21/09/2021 10:02

My friend's son just had an op and he had to isolate but they didn't as a household (though they did anyway).

Toddlerteaplease · 21/09/2021 10:03

My hospital will test again on admission. However she'll have had her op by the time the results are back!

Toddlerteaplease · 21/09/2021 10:04

Has t she been told to shield, from now till admission. Our kids have their test 48 hours before then shield.

Toddlerteaplease · 21/09/2021 10:05

It's for the hospitals benefit. We have shielded and non shielded wards. Or we did till our staffing and the number of winter bugs put paid to that.

Toddlerteaplease · 21/09/2021 10:06

@Fireplace12 in my hospital the whole family has to isolate. Though I doubt many do.

RevolvingPivot · 21/09/2021 10:19

I don't understand why it's not one rule for all that way no one would get confused!!!

Dh has a day procedure next week. He has to test 3 days before and then not mix outside family group but doesn't have to isolate.

RevolvingPivot · 21/09/2021 15:22

Hi. Just had the test. She's fine to go to school. Only the private hospital next door have to isolate.
