Who isn't chronically stressed in an understaffed ward/department?

If so, how has your department managed it?

My own workload is often unmanageable, as is that of the majority of the staff I manage and others I speak to. It was bad before COVID, but obviously worse now. I try to ensure the staff below me are coping and OK, but there's only so much I can do when the fact is, we don't have enough staff.

Just interested to hear if anyone doesn't feel this way. Have name changed for obvious reasons

Today at work - specialist nhs trust. I heard:

A&E staff openly talking about how they cannot cope to each other and are at the point if going off sick in the waiting area.

Icu nurses talking about the strain, being asked to work a night shift after a day shift, come In off holiday as they had no staff. They got no breaks the night before.

Senior nursing management talking about how much stress they are under.

All within 30 mins of starting. It is about to collapse.

My dept is no better. Chronic understaffing and stress. We are waiting for the next person to be off sick with stress. We have been running on good will for years now with constant cuts year on year and more patients with more complex medical issues and higher expectations. It's not sustainable and staff are jumping like rats off a sinking ship at the moment. It didn't need to be this way, it's been systematically run into the ground by the conservatives.

@Againstmachine

There is 1.5 million who work for the NHS most have never seen a covid patient.
Where does this come from? Most people within the NHS have had contact with Covid patients. Whether that be in the acute sector, the community, working as clinical staff, domestic staff, security, mental health, paediatrics etc

Also not really sure what the point of that pie in the sky comment is? This thread is NOT about covid.

Reading this thread makes me want to cry for you all. Feeling helpless as nothing we can do but just wanted to say thank you

There is something we can do, write to our MPs. I know it feels like nothing, but it is something. I've done it (mind you, he never replies).

I would also support medics striking. Yes, it's extreme but the situation is extreme.

Do the politicians just rely on being able to pay to go private? Is that why they don't care?

What happened to the National Health Action Party? I voted for them once and would again if I had a candidate to vote for.

These messages need to be published by a newspaper but I’m guessing the daily fail won’t pick this up

I’m absolutely shocked reading this thread and petrified for our NHS. How on earth is this going to sorted? How can this be turned around?

Bloodymess · 26/09/2021 23:30

Flowers thank you from a frequent user of the NHS, though fortunately currently “ just” repeat prescriptions which I know take time and checking as well.

I’m scared for your MH and well being and those of us that rely on you.
