Ds16, Coronavirus and Flu jab?

KeepCalmAndLoveAutumn · 20/09/2021 19:30

DS is 16 next week.

I have a flu jab booked for a few weeks time. I can also book him a covid jab after his birthday.

I am not sure what to do. I want him to have both (so does he) and am not sure which to do first, and how long to leave between them. All the sixth formers I know have all had a rough few days after the Covid jab so I don't really want to have them both together or close together.

Any suggestions?

Personally I’d have the covid one first, then the flu jab after. I know you have to wait 7 days from flu jab to covid jab, so presume it’s the same period of time the other way round. I had flu jab at the weekend and was asked if I’d had any other vaccines in the past 4 months. I said well, yes, the covid jab. She said fine, but didn’t ask when I last had mine.

I’d go with Covid first.

Plenty of time to get the flu jab in before the flu season hits whereas there’s a lot of Covid about now.

Hopefully you can get him the covid jab within next week or so as seem to be plenty of clinics still. Then flu jab a few weeks later and 2nd jab a few weeks after that.

If you have to wait a few weeks for covid jab I agree with others I'd prioritise that.

My DD’s school are giving both in the same day. I have declined both.

LilyPond2 · 20/09/2021 21:31

Given the speed with which Covid is spreading through schools at the moment, I'd prioritise getting him the Covid jab asap.

I would go with Covid first and then flu jab 2 weeks after. 7 days doesn’t sound enough for me. I think you can book him already for his Covid jab or maybe check if there are walk in clinics around you next weekend or weekend after.
My DD had both jabs already (CV) she was at school after both. She was just a bit more tired next day like when you have cold.

It now seems that our school is giving the covid jab in a couple of weeks and then 10 days later the flu jab. Based on what you have said, this seems ok.

At 16 do they get one or two Covid shots?

Our school is giving both on the same day when the immunisations teams visit the school? No mention of leaving any time inbetween, they will be having it the same day

Mindymomo · 21/09/2021 15:02

16/17 year old are only getting one dose of covid vaccine, at the moment.

starfish4 · 21/09/2021 15:10

If he's going to have the doses at different times, another here saying covid first. When I had my vaccines, they asked if I'd had another vaccine within 7 days.

Our school is giving flu and Covid same day for 12-15yos. The flu is nasal spray if that makes any difference (?)

My ds is 17 now but at 16 he had both shots 8 weeks apart. He'll get flu spray sometime late October/early nov and I don't know yet if they're offering booster at the same time.
