Child with high temp - who isolates?

Now, I'm sure I'm being thick but our school guidance isn't the same as that on .gov but I wanted to double check.

Eldest DS(6) has come home with a high temp. 38.4 after Calpol. Has since gone up to 39, I've now given nurofen too. He was wheezy this morning and had his inhaler but I'd put that down to the much colder air. No other symptoms.

He and I did LF tests yesterday, both -ive. DH has done PCR at work today (he does one weekly) we'll get results tomorrow.

I thought I needed to book PCR and him isolate until results. Both DH and I are double vaccinated so we don't(?) need to isolate. Toddler brother - 2, does he need to isolate or be tested?

School advice is for whole household to isolate until test results and obviously notify school. The last part makes sense, but I thought we didn't need to isolate if vaccinated? Or am I totally bewildered?

Please can someone reassure me as I'm not sure and am doubting what I thought I knew.

Are you in Scotland or England?
In Scotland you all isolate until test results come back
In England those without symptoms don't need to isolate while waiting for PCR results

If you're in England you need to book him a PCR test but none of the rest of you need to isolate unless any of you get symptoms.

Under 18s don’t have to isolate.

Sorry I meant this as in the child with symptoms needs to isolate whilst waiting for the results but the rest dont.

@Comefromaway

They do if they have symptoms.

The Op was asking about toddler sibling as a contact not the child with symptoms.

@Comefromaway

Under 18s don’t have to isolate.
That was what I was hoping - thank you @Comefromaway (awesome username btw)

England. That's great, I'll book him a test but DH can go into work on Thursday. Now, fingers crossed for a -ive

Nope,the little one has no symptoms. Well he's in a foul mood, but thankfully that's not on the list.

If either of you work in healthcare you would need to isolate (just with you saying that your husband does weekly PCR tests).
Otherwise the advice is PCR test household members then as long as they are negative and symptom free, under 18s and double jabbed carry on as normal.

Storysaurusandcrochet · 22/09/2021 12:46

We don't @Summerbubbles but thank you.

DS's PCR was -ive so I think just a cold. But thank you for untangling my confusion!
