If you can WFH and had Covid, did you still work, even if you were ill?

DS1 tested positive with LFT and is awaiting PCR results. He is symtomatic.

My LFT is positive and am booked for PCR. Feel rough.

If I do have Covid there will be an expectation to work as I can wfh. I feel lousy today and was up all night and it's hard as my job is demanding with key decisions needed and just me in my 'team' (others have teams to hand work over to).

I also have another DS and DH who might come down with Covid too.

For those of you who had Covid and were ill with it, did you try to work from home or take time off sick?

Surely the question is as simple as, are you well enough to work, yes or no. If the COVID test is negative, are you well enough to work? If it was a cold / flu, would you be well enough to work. The COVID word doesn’t change all other sickness / absence policies or common sense.

Seriously.

Tell work you have covid and are ill and will not be able to work at present.

Rest and get better. You'll be ill much longer if you don't. It's a nasty virus and not a 24 hour thing if you're feeling rough already.

You can feel better one minute then wiped out an hour later.

Clear the decks and get better. Work will have to manage without you. There is NO JOB so important that you can't take a week off in situations like this.

I have covid atm and for a while planned to try and work as much as possible.

But I felt so stressed and panicky about that - I soon ditched that plan. I've told my work I'm off until I'm better - and that this is likely to be at least a week, if any sooner great.

Bring “sick” generally is very looked down on I find now that you can work from home, three members of our team worked through covid but also through stomach upsets abs various other illnesses it’s strange because covid is supposed to mean an end to going into work I’ll but for those now wfh it’s the opposite with an expectation you can keep going regardless. Obviously you can sign off sick and probably should but at our place it would raise eyebrows amongst senior managers!

I was signed off work with exhaustion and work related stress for a couple of weeks- (I work in social care and COVID-19 impacted greatly) - hubby’s workplace had an outbreak of Covid and we both tested positive just as I was due to return to work…this was mid August- I have underlying health conditions - have been vaccinated and Covid wiped me out- it’s debilitating- I am still struggling with fatigue, no energy- loss if smell and taste, fever and dizziness. Doc has signed me off work- I switched on my work laptop so I can send sick certificates to manager and felt overwhelmed with the amount of emails I have- I tried focusing but brain fog is making the easiest if tasks very difficult and I cannot remember things- so I’m not going to work from home until I am 100% - I am worried about returning to work as there is very little support available and I’m certain that I will be taken to capability/guidance- long Covid sucks!

I was not well enough to work at all for 13 days, and I am rarely sick. My employer allowed me to do a phased return over the following month as I was still bloody exhausted. DH was sick but not as bad as me, he only missed 1 day WFH. His job doesn't involved client contact and emotional/difficult situations, mine does.

This was all early doors in the pandemic, pre-vaccinations, but I still wouldn't underestimate COVID. It's a nasty illness and you must rest as much as you can: you risk setting yourself back if you overdo it. Hope you feel better soon. Flowers

I took a week off with Covid. I just wasn't well enough to work. I was also really concerned about long Covid because one of my colleagues had it and one of the risk factors is rushing back to soon and overdoing it. I went back to work from home when I was feeling better. Still tired so having a lie down in my lunch break but overall ok to work now.

Yup.

It's what's expected of school staff. Would have been nice if anybody had called to see whether I was still alive, but no, not even an email until I got one saying 'stay at home's over, you're back first week of August'.
