Ds tested positive. Isolation we

thelastgoldeneagle · 19/09/2021 15:45

14yo Ds had a positive LFT y'day, took PCR. He has symptoms. Got his positive test result this morning.

We all took PCRs today. Waiting for results. Do we have to self isolate until results, as close contacts? None of us have symptoms, and our LFTs are negative. I find the gov guidance confusing.

Thanks!

If you are double jabbed you don’t have to isolate as a close contact unless you have symptoms.

CyclingIsNotOuting · 19/09/2021 15:48

“If someone you live with has symptoms of COVID-19, or has tested positive for COVID-19, you will not need to self-isolate if any of the following apply:

you're fully vaccinated – this means 14 days have passed since your final dose of a COVID-19 vaccine given by the NHS
you're under 18 years, 6 months old
you're taking part or have taken part in a COVID-19 vaccine trial
you're not able to get vaccinated for medical reasons”

RowanAspenOak · 19/09/2021 15:49

You don’t have to, if you are vaccinated, but I did as I didn’t want to risk spreading it.

Silkiescatz · 19/09/2021 15:51

Yes you isolate until results are back, officially you arent supposed to order pcrs without one of 3 listed symptoms. Dd did one other day and results back in 0.5 days so hopefully quick.

Silkiescatz · 19/09/2021 15:52

See what is says on mine it says must isolate on the email when ordered test.

thelastgoldeneagle · 19/09/2021 15:54

Contradicting answers - that's what i mean!

The website says:

'If someone you live with has symptoms of COVID-19, or has tested positive for COVID-19, you will not need to self-isolate if any of the following apply:

you're fully vaccinated – this means 14 days have passed since your final dose of a COVID-19 vaccine given by the NHS
you're under 18 years, 6 months old
you're taking part or have taken part in a COVID-19 vaccine trial
you're not able to get vaccinated for medical reasons.'

Fine. We're double jabbed and dd is 17.

But then the website goes on: 'Even if you do not have symptoms, you should still:

get a PCR test on GOV.UK to check if you have COVID-19
follow advice on how to avoid catching and spreading COVID-19
consider limiting contact with people who are at higher risk from COVID-19'

and it doesn't say if we need to SI until we get our PCR results, even though we have no symptoms.

The advice I had was no pcrs for rest of family until symptoms and pcr test means isolate until results if negative, 10 days from symptoms if positive. It says what to do on my pcr email.

ThesecondLEM · 19/09/2021 15:58

It's so confusing isn't it. Waiting on a PCR result from DD (16) she is quite unwell. I have been told by work I am expected to attend.

So if she is positive I have to get pcr but not clear if I need to isolate while waiting for result. DP isn't vaccinated so is isolating.

dementedpixie · 19/09/2021 16:02

Depends if you're in England or Scotland
If in Scotland you isolate until PCR result comes back and contacts should also PCR test and isolate until results.

HalfwomanHalfcookie · 19/09/2021 16:13

@Silkiescatz

The advice I had was no pcrs for rest of family until symptoms and pcr test means isolate until results if negative, 10 days from symptoms if positive. It says what to do on my pcr email.
I had the opposite advice when Dh tested positive. Called 119 and was told I needed to isolate unless I had negative pcr test (I'm in England) It's so annoying that people are being told different things.
thelastgoldeneagle · 19/09/2021 16:20

I'm glad it's not just me who's confused. Honestly. Gov needs to use plain English.

We're in England. Gov website literally says 'Even if you do not have symptoms, you should still get a PCR test on GOV.UK to check if you have COVID-19.' So we've done that...

I think in England you dont need to isolate as contacts while waiting for your PCR results.
In Scotland you do

TerribleZebra · 19/09/2021 16:24

If you are in England and double jabbed you do not need to self isolate whilst waiting for PCR result. You are also able to get a PCR if you have no symptoms and are a close contact. This was my situation last week and I was told to go to work despite having DS off with covid. I have just tested positive so feel really bad that I went to work, but as I work for the gov we have to follow the exact rules (which is what I did).

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 19/09/2021 16:28

I was contacted due to being a close contact. Was told could order a PCR test if wanted to and if didnt have symptoms didn't need to isolate while waiting for results..that was for England know Scotland have different rules or England do as well depending who you speak to.

girlmom21 · 19/09/2021 16:28

I'm pretty sure you're supposed to isolate whilst waiting for PCR results even if you've not tested positive or got symptoms.

If you need to go out and you have no symptoms could you do a lateral flow for peace of mind?

middleager · 19/09/2021 17:00

Watching as DS awaiting PCR results.
I thought Test and Trace advised you what to do - i.e. they will advise us, as close contacts, to take PCRs, so I will check the rules with them. No doubt it's contradictory to other advice knowing the Govt comms. Clear as mud.

Silkiescatz · 19/09/2021 17:20

Yes I think I am also getting confused here. We are in England. I isolated myself anyway as suspect covid and dd positive with same symptoms. The email says if no symptoms dont isolate. I remembered now the dont order tests unless symptoms was for before 1 positive result though its still not great advice as dd got neg x 3 on lft as none of 3 symptoms though off sick and I insisted on pcr and positive.

thelastgoldeneagle · 19/09/2021 18:25

Right. Just been called by Test and Trace, so I asked them. They say if you're double jabbed or under 18, and a symptomatic, there's no need to isolate while waiting for PCR result.
