Hi, asking for a friend who's supposed to come and help me next week with my son.

She had covid mid July and has since been fully vaccinated.

She started with headache/ migraine / nausea last Monday. Then sinus headache and not great still on Tuesday / Wednesday. Woke up on Thursday with a snotty nose and says she has a head cold.

I'm aware that you're not supposed to test again within 90 days. I'm a bit nervous about having her in my home as I'm very vulnerable to covid.

Would you risk it ?

She has done a LTF which was negative..

If you are vulnerable to Covid then my advice is to be very cautious, lots of people seem to be having negative LFTs with symptoms at the moment so it’s either just a regular bug or the tests are not efficient in picking up Delta.

MossyBottom · 19/09/2021 11:27

It's possible to get it twice but hugely unlikely so soon. There are some truly horrible other viruses around atm, she probably has one of those, which you also don't want to catch.

Cornettoninja · 19/09/2021 11:37

In your position I’d be cautious and in all honesty wouldn’t want an illness with test triggering symptoms myself anyway if I could avoid it and this is definitely a scenario where you have a degree of control.

It’s highly unlikely that she has caught covid again but it seems unnecessarily stressful for you.

Quartz2208 · 19/09/2021 11:38

surely you are vulnerable to most viruses not just covid and she has one of the other not very nice ones

Sprostongreen21 · 19/09/2021 11:39

Some nasty viruses doing the rounds….while I’d get tested with a pcr to rule it out ( plus work would request it) it would be very unlucky to have recently had it and be vaccinated, then catch it againwithin a a few months.

Or LFTs aren’t for symptomatic cases but to pick up asymptomatic ones. Far too many people are relying on their LFT when they should be taking a PCR to rule it out if they have symptoms.

There’s some nasty virus’s going round atm. We’ve all been locked away and wearing masks when out so they’ve not had much chance but now it’s party time for them.

There’s a thread running atm about having them.

Silkiescatz · 19/09/2021 12:15

That's exactly pretty much symptoms DD had - negative on all LFTs but positive PCR. Even if its something different I would avoid contact if you can.

UnsuitableHat · 19/09/2021 12:22

Perhaps your friend shouldn’t come anyway if she’s unwell, but if she feels better and wants to come she could maybe do another LFT?

Megistotherium · 19/09/2021 13:15

If you are vulnerable, surely it makes sense to avoid contact with anyone who is ill, covid or not?

Yes of course. But the difference is, if I know it's covid, I would wait at least 10 days for my friend to finish isolation etc. If it's ' just a cold ', I'm probably safe to see her when her symptoms have stopped.

You're probably safe after symptoms stop with Covid too...

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 19/09/2021 16:54

Why would you want to see her when she's so poorly anyway? Just don't see her until she's better, you don't want her head cold. Unlikely to be Covid so soon but seriously, who knows these days?!
