Where are you with covid anxiety?

On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being not at all anxious, pretty much getting on as normal and 10 being dreadfully anxious with it still having a huge impact on day to day life where are you?

I'm definitely around a 1 or 2 but I work with people and know people who are turning down invitations to events and still incredibly worried. I was just wondering how common each opinion is.

I'm not too bothered about catching it now just in terms of me, you can't hide from it forever.

I still worry about elderly relatives, or vulnerable co-workers, therefore have to be somewhat careful.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 19/09/2021 09:19
  1. Never been anxious at any stage, even the beginning. I'd have lived normally throughout if I was allowed to. I am 31 with no health issues though so can understand older and vulnerable people being anxious.
ApolloandDaphne · 19/09/2021 09:23
  1. Doing pretty much everything as normal now. I have never been anxious about it but I have taken precautions as required.
AlandAnna · 19/09/2021 09:24
A bit concerned about the unvaccinated and elderly as it’s a horrible disease but still feel it’s unavoidable with case numbers so high. If I get it I’ll be poorly and get better. Much more anxious about never seeing my (vaccinated) relatives abroad again.
User4378645 · 19/09/2021 09:25
  1. I am over 60, in good health, no point in worrying your life away.
Cherir20 · 19/09/2021 09:26

8 I am a healthy 27 year old. Very slim never had a health issue or have any existing issues. Caught covid last December and it left me unable to get out of bed for months and months and messed my liver up. I turned yellow around a month after catching it gave me bad jaundice. I didn’t have any issues with liver before this I had a full health check about 6 months earlier from work with the private insurance. I still suffer 3 out of 7 days now with dizziness body aches headaches etc.

x2boys · 19/09/2021 09:26

Im not anxious about catching it im doubly vaccinated, and my son has already had it, we live in a small two bedroom house, and i didnt catch it off him, i am concerned about the winter and what the impact on schools might be.

HandScreen · 19/09/2021 09:28

1 about getting it, 4 about schools being closed again

fedup078 · 19/09/2021 09:30

I'm not anxious about catching it
In fact if I'm going to get it I wish I could just get it now before the vaccines wear off and we get a winter surge
I am still putting off organising social events however on the worry they get cancelled , I worry about having to work as a single parent if ds can't go to nursery etc

What I'm really worried about is the backlog for other health issues such as cancer. That worries me way more than Covid ever did

Suzi888 · 19/09/2021 09:32

1
This may be because I have elderly family members, CEV, who’ve had it and were unwell for a few weeks but ultimately fine. No cough, just felt sick.
@Cherir20 - that sounds absolutely awful.
I don’t personally know anyone that’s been really affected by it. I’ve no idea if I’ve had it or not, my optimism may be ill founded. Sad
There are an awful lot of people who are positive, going out and carrying on as normal, I think it’s inevitable that we will get it- vaccinated or not.

Suzi888 · 19/09/2021 09:32
  • Yes, I know being vaccinated doesn’t prevent you getting covid….
TreaslakeandBack · 19/09/2021 09:32
  1. My worries aren’t about catching it again personally but I do worry about my parents getting it despite them both being double jabbed (they have their boosters booked next week too!)
I worry more about schools closing and also about the health service being unable to cope with other needs like cancer etc. I do think life needs to go on but some mitigation like masks etc is needed imo.
Robinred81 · 19/09/2021 09:33

Probably a 2. I don’t really give it much thought anymore but I am still slightly cautious of catching it when in very busy places such as big shopping centres. If I’m somewhere that isn’t particularly busy I give it zero thought

User4378645 · 19/09/2021 09:33

Older retired people like myself have much less to be anxious about anyway, no work, no school and no young DC to care for if we should get ill. I feel that I am lucky to have got this far anyway with no ill health and what will be will be so just carry on as normal as the rules allow

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 19/09/2021 09:33

It's still having a huge impact but that's down to advice from my medical team rather than anxiety.

GoldenOmber · 19/09/2021 09:36

1 about getting it personally. I was never that much at risk to begin with, I’ve likely already had it and it wasn’t all that bad, plus I’m vaccinated now.

Higher for some other covid-related things: vulnerable/immunosuppressed people I know getting it, return of major restrictions, impact of a bad flu season this winter on an already overstretched health care system.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 19/09/2021 09:42

About 2 for me. Doing most things, still wear a mask in supermarkets, planning a foreign holiday soon.

But I have a couple of friends who are still at 10, won't meet people indoors, one has only just started to allow people to use her toilet if you go round for a coffee in the garden (and then her family aren't allowed to use that toilet for 2 days).
Worries me how they are going to move forward.

BluebellsGreenbells · 19/09/2021 09:43

Not worried about covid as I have 3 teens I 3 different large educational settings.
All out and about at weekends mixing with friends and they haven’t caught it yet.

I’m not going to packed places - like cinema etc with no ventilation.

I’ve not organized anything until last min and am shopping mainly on line.

I’m more worried about stock not being in the shops, discounted cheaper brands are currently unavailable and make me think supermarkets are cashing in again.

Jobs are going, and Christmas maybe scaled down.

Tinpotspectator · 19/09/2021 09:44

Probably 5. I live my life and see people. I go to cafes and restaurants but have prioritised outside areas for now. I won't go abroad yet as think it's too high risk, especially the journey, with Covid. I take risks, like most people, but I don't pretend it doesn't exist or isn't a risk to me. It is, especially as I have a health condition.

Mumblechum0 · 19/09/2021 09:53
  1. If 0 were an option I would have gone for that.

Had Covid March 2020, was fine after 3 days. Double vaxxed.

I’d like to see the stats on deaths, ie out of 100 deaths “with Covid”, how many were otherwise fit and healthy, how many were elderly, how many vaxxed, as I suspect that the blanket number we see every day would show that the number of young, healthy, vaccinated people who die of Covid is not statistically significant.

FlorallyBankrupt · 19/09/2021 09:54

About a 3. I'm 48 and quite overweight but no underlying conditions, had covid last November and it is probably the worst I've ever felt with an illness over such a protracted period.

No long term problems though, thankfully. I am a little worried about catching it again or DH getting it properly 2nd time around (he was only mildly effected the 1st time). Also vaguely concerned about what winter will bring in terms of hospital pressures, lockdown measures and empty supermarket shelves. But otherwise life goes on doesn't it, what choice do we have?

Rather crucially neither of us have got around to having the 2nd jab yet, must get on with that.

Itstheprinciple · 19/09/2021 09:54

That's really interesting. I primarily meant anxiety about catching covid. I am definitely more concerned about more disruption to schools as that has had a huge impact on my DD in terms of mental health. I feel like we have to get back to normal, and begin living again.

OP posts:
RobinPenguins · 19/09/2021 09:54

1 or 2 about actual covid.
5 about public pressure and lobbying groups forcing restrictions back this winter when the NHS has its annual winter crisis that it’s had every year for as long as I’ve been an adult.

fedup078 · 19/09/2021 09:58

@Mumblechum0
I would also like to see stats . There is a huge difference between dying OF Covid to dying WITH Covid

LiamGallagherIsHot · 19/09/2021 10:06

I’m not anxious at all about it so 1. Im not vaccinated so was a bit more anxious at first thinking I shouldn’t put myself around others but being as you can still pass the virus on when vaccinated, I don’t feel so bad now. I’m still wearing a mask as that’s protects others but other than that, just doing normal pre covid stuff.
