Covid experience when fully vaxxed?

Chowmeinhotdog · 18/09/2021 18:43

I have a wedding next week that I don't feel I can get out of. I'm so anxious about finally catching this disease I've avoided for so long.
Double vaxxed with Pfizer since July.
What have other people's experiences been like when they caught covid after being fully vaccinated? Was it the worst illness you ever had?

@pontypridd

When double vaccinated *@Chowmeinhotdog*?

My sister isn’t vaxxed. Neither are a couple of friends. Same as my kids. There will be many who are mixing and out and about yet never catch Covid.

How is that?

As I said this was last year, so we were not vaxxed. I am the OP commenting on how contagious this is.

This is actually reassuring because most people I know did catch it, but they're pretty much just healthcare workers so highly exposed. Maybe many with low exposure do have very mild illness if they're young.

I'm just getting over it still , tested positive two weeks ago.
Headache
Cough
Temperature
Total loss of taste and smell ( still)
Joint pain
Stomach pain
Nausea
Really sore throat

Took me a good week to turn the corner and I tire easy now .

Lbnc2021 · 18/09/2021 20:57

My dad was double vaccinated and died last week from covid. He did have a serious underlying condition which the consultant said basically rendered the vaccine useless.

BIWI · 18/09/2021 20:57

@pontypridd

So the vaccines don’t work *@Silkiescatz*.

I watched a meeting /video with doctors from the JCVI the other day. Delta has slightly different symptoms but is no more severe than Alpha. They were very clear on this.

It seems with or without vaccines some get it bad and some mild.

The vaccines aren’t making any difference - are they?

I'm sorry that you have such anxiety - but you do need to understand that the vaccines are working.

But it's also always the case that no vaccine is ever 100% at preventing infection.

You'd be a lot more at risk though, if you didn't have the vaccine.

Anxiety is also an illness. Surely a dose of the wuflu is better than living in perpetual fear?
Helpful comment there. The primary source of my anxiety is the prospect at not being here for my child and parents who all rely on me. Heavily. There is nobody else able to do this. That represents my "perpetual fear". Maybe just maybe if mitigating measures were in place I'd be more inclined to agree with you. But this obsession with everybody's right to freedom to visit Primark and the pub and finding it oh so difficult to wear a mask or God forbid protect schools entirely disables decision making. I have to do whatever I can for now to eliminate any risks I can for reasons stated above. If you feel that's fearful perhaps consider why.

Are you for real? What a nasty and racist thing to say Hmm
Sleepyblueocean · 18/09/2021 21:15

My sister had it a couple of weeks ago. Doubled vaxxed a while ago - is a HCP. She felt very tired, high temperatures and felt pretty rough at times. She still classed as a mild case as she has seen the serious kind at work. Although she has frequently come into contact with covid at work she thinks she caught it socially from a friend

Angrymum22 · 18/09/2021 21:20

I had Alpha variant in early 2020, I’m just recovering from Delta. I’m also double vaccinated.
Alpha was much more debilitating breathing wise. The cough was horrendous and went on for weeks. I had to sleep upright on the settee for first five nights.Smell and taste went after a week or so and couldn’t smell anything for 3+months.
Delta is more sinusy head cold slight cough but no breathing problems. Symptoms are much more condensed and smell and taste are returning after a couple of weeks.
Since I had alpha pre testing I wasn’t sure it was Covid, but having had it again (pcr & lft positive ) I now know that it was Covid.
I was worried last week since alpha went on for weeks. But I’m almost back to normal. The only symptom that is lingering is a bit of intermittent vertigo but that may be due to meds I am taking for something else.
At least I’ve had a natural booster before the winter starts.

JasperLily · 18/09/2021 21:21

I was fully jabbed by May, caught COVID at the end of August and would have had no idea had it not been for the ONS study swabs we have done. I had none of the major symptoms. Never felt ill enough to not complete office work. I felt a bit off the week before the positive, but I often feel off due to other issues and it felt no different to that. The anxiety once I knew I had it was the worse, kept worrying I would get symptoms or would pass it onto my DH. He didn’t catch it though, he had the ons swab the same day as me and 5 days later when I tested positive and he was negative.

rosy71 · 18/09/2021 21:28

Dc both had covid recently. Both mildly ill for about 5 days. Dp and I didn't catch it - tested negative on PCRs and LFT and weren't ill. We spent a lot of time in the house with them over the 2 weeks of isolation. We are both double vaccinated so assume the vaccines must work!

ShellieEllie · 18/09/2021 21:30

Day 24 since positive test. Symptoms started 3 days before... Snotty nose & sneezing, a couple if days later came stomach cramps, slight temperature, blocked ears, fuzzy head/brain fog, fluey feeling and loss of taste & smell. I've definitely had far worse flu. I was hospitalised several times in my late teens with asthma (totally outgrown it as an adult) and I was very concerned that if I got Covid my breathing would be affected. As it happens I had no cough or breathing difficulties. I do occasionally get an overwhelming feeling of exhaustion though and have to retire to bed for a bit. A little smell has returned but no taste yet. Vaccines are definitely making a positive difference though and I'm glad I had them.

ScrummyDiva2 · 18/09/2021 21:31

I'm double vaccinated. Currently have covid for the second time. First time, I had only one vaccine and was pretty rough. This time, just a bit of a headache. Wouldn't even take any time off work ordinarily. Only knew I had it as have to routinely test due to my work.

ScrummyDiva2 · 18/09/2021 21:31

Also, both times, no other family member caught it from me!

Glad to hear you're having an easier run this time around. FYI alpha emerged late 2020 in UK. Sounds like you had the original strain the first time rather than alpha? Being pedantic here, obv doesn't change your point!

Double vaccinated here.
Had a bit of a cold, lost my sense of smell and tested positive

Probably picked it up in London, or DD brought it back from Reading.

I've carried on doing my office job WFH. Definitely had much worse colds...

Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/09/2021 21:53

I caught it when single vaxxed and it was nothing more than a cold.

ArianaG · 18/09/2021 22:02

Double vaccinated: Days 1 to 6 sinus pain, tickly chest, fluctuating temperature, nausea, reduced appetite, sore glands in neck and armpit.
Days 6 to 10: bed bound, dizzy, bodily aches, felt like pins being stuck in skin, chest worsening with bad cough, unable to mentally focus, sense of doom. Exhaustion.
Loss of taste and smell.
Day 11 onwards, much better, temp stopped, tired but on the mend. Taste came back quickly

DH double vaccinated but hardly any symptoms. I did have my second vaccine in early March though and his was late July if that makes any difference.

tiddlysquat · 18/09/2021 22:05

I think we will be doing tests in the morning ! DD's friend has it. She tested negative Friday . Both a bit sniffly and I've got a headache but reading this we'll do LF in the morning !

LFTs are useless, mine showed up negative when I had Covid. Do a PCR if you are genuinely concerned.
Bumpsadaisie · 18/09/2021 23:02

Everyone different.

But our experience (both double vaxxed AZ) is of 7-10 days feeling ill, feverish, achy, headaches, shattered - just generally rubbish.

So not ill enough for doctors/hospital - but enough to feel properly rubbish for a long time.

Able to get up and see to meals for the kids, able to sit and watch TV for a bit. Interspersed with being in bed. But definitely not able to do much about the house.

The odd thing is that it feels like it goes on and on - odd to be ill for so long, when usually illness is two or three days. Because you don't go anywhere for 10 days you also start to go a bit bonkers I think.

Bumpsadaisie · 18/09/2021 23:03

I also think when you had the vaccine makes a difference. DH had his in right back in January 2021 and he has been worse than me (May vaccine).

winteroversummer · 18/09/2021 23:06

I'm double AZ jabbed and tested positive last Sunday. I have been fine other than an annoying faint headache that lasted for about three days. I could still look after my 2 DC and check in on emails etc so it wasn't debilitating, just annoying
