pins and needles all over, post-covid or post vaccine

Hi,

I wondered if anybody else has pins and needles in the skin all over their body since having covid or the vaccine? I had the vaccine and Delta covid one after the other, so don't know which caused it.

It's funny though because if I hear a bang and I get a shock, then I get a burst of the pins and needles, like a firework going off and it's all down the backs of both arms.

I'm a biomedical scientist and I'd like to read up more about what it means, but I have no idea what to type into a google search as I don't know what the prickly feeling is.

I wondered if anyone might know? I've noticed that it is also more there when I'm a bit stressed.

Thanks!

Sorry, I can't help, but I did love that...

I haven't had this but anxiety/the stress response can cause pins and needles, which would fit with it happening after hearing a bang/being shocked. It's possible that having a heightened immune response has tuned that up a bit. This can happen with any illness, not just Covid. I would see your GP, though, to rule out anything else, eg vitamin deficiencies.

LOL! Yes I suppose that is quite funny. Biomedial science is a very large field, and my specialist model organism doesn't have nerves. Lucky it!

@Totallydefeated Thanks that's really good to know. I'm really extremely certain that I'm having B12 deficiency symptoms, because I'm on a ridiculously narrow exclusion diet and everyting gets better when I manage to level in some B12 into my diet. Then it gets worse again if I don't.

That would explain it wouldn't it? I have an appointment with a gastroenterologist and a dietician, so hopefully they can help.

@Totallydefeated I love your username btw. That's how I feel too.

I second B12 deficiency as a possible cause. Can cause pins and needles or peripheral neuropathy (loss of sensation and tingling). I've been having issues because my diet has become quite limited due to histamine intolerance and oxalate issues. Currently supplementing B12 via transdermal oil as well as a number of other vits and minerals. Plus trying to reintroduce various foods!

StrongLegs · 17/09/2021 00:57

@CrunchyCarrot can you tell me more about that?

I keep trying different foods with B12 in them and I get a kind of hypersensitivity reaction to all of them. I can eat chicken, turkey, and duck, but not eggs or beef or sardines or salmon. Supplements give me bad side effects, but I've never tried transdermal oil for B12. Mind you, I get wild reactions to moisturiser and magnesium transdermal oil, so it's possible that B12 would also be troublesome that way.

How did you find out about that, and would you have a minute to tell me more about it?

Thanks!

Look up 'Lhermitte's sign' to see if it fits. This is commonly associated with MS but can occur with other conditions like vitamin deficiency, transverse myelitis, trauma, and infection.

Sure I'll send you a message. :)

Pins and needles is on the list of possible symptoms on the Zoe App.

PointeShoesandTutus · 17/09/2021 08:12

I didn’t have that after the vaccine, but it was my main symptom when I had Covid at the back end of last year. It was very uncomfortable, and initially I didn’t think it was Covid related but the GP assured me it’s a common Covid symptom.

Porcupineintherough · 17/09/2021 08:21

Hi OP I had pins and needles and burning, tingling gskin for 6 months after catching COVID in March 2020. One of the lesser known symptoms. I still get them every now and then when I relapse.

HSHorror · 17/09/2021 09:57

I have had pins and needles since probable covid apr 2020.

Agree with alixandra just couldnt remember name of the ms thing. Hadnt realised about it having other causes.
Pins and needles can be b12. Or anaemia (iron).
Mine was prtly sleeping on front and hand going to sleep.

HSHorror · 17/09/2021 10:00

Or b6

Thank you very much for all the comments. That's really good to know that it's not just me.

This, pins & needles always warrants investigation. Good luck OP, probably nothing neurological, but as someone who has had Transverse Myelitis and later an MS diagnosis, just it checked out.
