Irregular periods & Pfizer jab

vampofsavannahGA · 16/09/2021 10:34

Quick disclaimer that I’m very much in support of vaccines!

Anyone else experiencing period irregularities after Pfizer? I’m a bit in a muddle as I was super regular until I had DC1 pre-pandemic, and I started periods again about 6 months after giving birth, back to being really regular (29/30 days).

I had my second Pfizer jab in May and subsequently have had cycle lengths as follows:
37 days
35 days
19 days
27 days

I thought with the 27 day one that I might be heading back to normal, but I’m now on day 34 of my latest cycle and no period yet.

It's pretty annoying as I’m TTC at the moment and it's causing me some stress!

Anyone got any insights or similar experiences? And yes, I have reported it via the yellow card website, but I don’t think there’s much official research out there so I’m hoping for some anecdata Grin

This is something which I have discussed with my GP actually. He says this is a real issue with thousands and thousands of women and they have no idea what about the vaccine is causing it but that there is lots of research going into it.

I actually have a long term issue with my periods where I take medication to clot my blood as my bleeding is so excessive and my GP advised against me having the vaccine because of this. My medication is working and it's the only thing that's ever worked so I do not want to risk mucking that up!

But there are also lots of articles online about the vaccine and how it's affecting periods etc.

I was the same, had 2nd pfizer vaccine in May like you and have very irregular cycles since. Last week was the first period that was back to normal (ie 4 weeks from the last) so hoping that's it back to normal now 🤞🏻

I heard this problem too, very widespread apparently. Makes me think, after the jab, don't men have any side effects on their reproductive system?

eew1988 · 16/09/2021 13:13

sorry if TMI, I had my 2nd vaccine 8th June and have had a heavy period every day since. I've been back and for to the doctors, I've come off the pill as advised.

I'm glad this report has come out as i thought i was going crazy! Prior to the vaccine I hadn't had a period in 13 years!

Hello,

Yes I am seeing this too. My cycles have been so irregular it has been impossible for me to get an appointment for my day three bloods for 4 months as the date I guess ends up being wrong and then there are no appointments left or I can't do the new date. The main difference I have seen though is period length. It has been varying from two days and light to 8 days and heavy, neither of which are normal for me.

As you said OP, still glad I had the vaccine as better this than being seriously ill with covid but wanted to share my experience

A bit late to the party on this but I have also experienced issues and was reassured to read I wasn’t the only one. I had my booster jab (3rd Pfizer jab as jabs 1 and 2 were Pfizer as well) and I’ve been brown/rusty colour gunk spotting every since I had the booster jab on Thursday evening (combined with the normal flu like side effects, temp, shakes etc I seem to get post jab).

Erratic periods which seem heavier and then also mid cycle spotting since jab 2. Now we are off down the route of an operative hysteroscopy to check it out as they think I’m talking nonsense when I say it’s post vaccines. I’ve had an ultrasound and it shows nothing wrong!

I’m 31 and trying to prep my body for TTC so a hysteroscopy feels so invasive!

I have severe endometriosis and had surgery in October last year to stop my bleeding (ablation) so although I still have a cycle I don’t bleed. It helped the pain immensely and I went from needing massive doses of prescription pain killers to a few paracetamol and an antispasmodic.

Then I had the vaccine and I don’t know if it’s related or not but the pain was incredible during every period and I ended up taking far more medication than I ever had before and was desperate enough to try anything. It’s only in the last month this has improved.

I’m not alone in this, I’m sure there’s something going on.

Hysteroscopy isn’t always hideous, I’ve had several and they were painless for me. I know they’re horrid for some but I didn’t find them so.
Fluffycloudland77 · 18/12/2021 18:01

I never had an issue with hysterscopy either.

I had AZ and a phizer booster with no issues.

Ls005 · 18/12/2021 18:29

That’s good to know it isn’t always hideous - I used my health insurance with AXA to go private when I was referred and they said I could only have it under general anaesthetic, but the NHS say this isn’t normally needed. I’ve tolerated plenty of biopsies following an abnormal smear test so am hoping that I wouldn’t need a general anaesthetic - that’s a January problem to sort now though.

I am just pleased I’m not alone thinking there is some connection.
