Just checking out what our options are. My mum went on a UK break (coach tour based in one hotel in North England).
She started feeling ill yesterday and took lft which is positive.
A pcr has been ordered and is being posted to the hotel. She feels really poorly.
My siblings and I are all separately based in South UK. Would be about a 3hr trip up there, maybe a little less.
My instinct is for one of us to rush up there, collect her and take her back to her own house to recover.
Is this A) illegal? B) would it then mean that the rescuer would need to isolate for ten days?
As a family we'll do the 'right thing', it's just so hard when someone you love is unwell.
Other relevant (maybe) info: everyone concerned is double jabbed, no one cv, mum is late 60s and generally quite well. Meant to be leaving the hotel by Saturday. Neither coach company or hotel seem to know protocol or plan for these situations, which I find a bit baffling.

If you're double vaccinated you can collect her and bring her home and not isolate. Everyone wear masks, car windows open, sit as far as possible in the car.

Go get your mum, she's poorly & she needs you.

I've no idea what the protocol is either, but I'd be surprised if the hotel want her for ten days. In your situation I'd be going to get her - obviously not stopping anywhere on the way home. People have had to get home from places on public transport I believe so in a car with one other person has got to be better than that.
Then because you are double jabbed you don't HAVE to isolate but after 3 hours in a car with her you might deem it wise to.
Hope she feels better soon!

Thank you both! That was my interpretation of the guidelines too. I wondered if it was just wishful thinking.

Go and get her, no doubt about it.

Agree if you are able to work from home for a week then that may be wise, also online shop and avoid social events.

I can't work from home and they'd want me in even if a household member was positive (double jabbed) but they'd recommend daily LFT and would probably ask me to do a PCR on day 2, 5 & 7 as a close contact.

Definitely go and get her. Flowers

GoldFrankensteinAndGrrr · 16/09/2021 10:15

Yes, definitely go and get her. Hope she feels better soon Flowers

Primrosejoy · 16/09/2021 12:23

I'd get her but are you able to do the journey without any stops/toilet breaks?

Lovestonap · 16/09/2021 18:41

Thanks all. Yes my husband is driving up tomorrow to collect her. His work have just insisted on a pcr before he returns on Monday. You're right about the hotel not wanting her, they're overbooked for this weekend as it is!

Good I'm glad OP. She'll be more comfortable in her own home too I'd guess. Wishing her a speedy recovery - and that none of you get it from her!

Lovestonap · 18/09/2021 23:28

Thanks for those who took the time to comment. She is safely home. Pcr test has confirmed covid (no surprise), but she is already feeling a bit better. We'll keep in daily contact because I know that things can often go south around day 8ish, and she lives alone. Husband should hopefully get pcr results soon, and he'll also do lfts for a few days. I know that soon enough we'll all have had covid, and I'm not really that worried, but it just seems such an unpredictable illness that I can't yet feel blasé about it, just because she 'should' make a full recovery.

Glad she's home OP. Smile
I quite agree about not being blasé about covid. We don't know enough about it yet and it's too unpredictable who will suffer badly, vaccinated or not. Hope she makes a full and swift recovery.
