DS is very keen to go with his friends but I am concerned about the covid risk. Would you allow a teenager to go to hull fair?

I'm thinking about it. I guess it depends when/what time etc.

kaleidoscopeheartless · 15/09/2021 20:47

Yes.

IrisPurple · 15/09/2021 21:07

I would. We've been all over the place in crowds and so far escaped, but I know people who have caught it despite being cautious. We will all catch it at some point whatever we do, I would be very cross if I missed out on stuff then caught covid anyway!

AFuturisticalSound · 15/09/2021 21:08

Is Hull fair similar to all other fairs? If so I wouldn't think twice about going, I'd go myself with my DC or they could go with friends.

If it's not like other fairs what is the extra risk?

Bettyboopsboop · 15/09/2021 21:09

I'm in Hull and I would. I get why you would question it and I wouldn't fancy fair myself (even in non covid times Grin). I just weigh up the risk of covid against the impact of further restrictions on my teens life. Its been an awful 18 months for our young people and I'd find it hard to justify any further restrictions on their activities unless absolutely necessary.

I accept the risk but I feel my kids need to have some fun and just be kids again while they can.

grafittiartist · 15/09/2021 21:10

I really missed it last year!!

EwwSprouts · 15/09/2021 21:12

Yes. It's all going contactless and sanitiser everywhere from what I've read. There is also rumour of longer opening hours to spread people out. I would suggest going in from Spring Bank end as then it's a much shorter walk down Walton St.

pinkflask · 15/09/2021 21:13

I work in a college and I’d say Hull Fair is a similar risk level to being there - you do get packed in a bit closer at the fair but it’s outside so it balances out!

FlyingScott · 15/09/2021 21:14

I’d be more concerned about dodgy fair rides than covid (sorry)

Peteycat · 15/09/2021 21:16

Please let him go. He needs a life and fun. We all had these things so why can't this generation? They missed out on so much. I wouldn't be worried about Covid, I'd worry about other factors more. If he has a phone just check in with him a few times.

HairyFloppins · 15/09/2021 21:18

Yes I would let them go. My teens have made the most of the summer, theatre trips and festivals, just in case we have a bad winter.

Fireplace12 · 15/09/2021 21:21

Of course! I can’t bloody wait. Was awful last year without it.

ArianaG · 15/09/2021 21:22

Yes I would, they have missed out on so much already.
I think there is an almost inevitability to getting it nowadays anyway especially if you have kids in school/college

Caaarrrl · 15/09/2021 21:23

I hate hull fair with a passion! Horrible! I used to bribe my kids not to go when they were little. But I wouldn't stop him because of covid. My DD (18) went to Leeds fest recently and I was convinced she'd get covid. Luckily not though.

I found £20-£30 worked for my kids...then their grandparents felt bad for them so they took one (or maybe five years worth) for the team Halo
Warhertisuff · 15/09/2021 21:37

I wouldn't think twice about it. I'd definitely let him go.

Of all the risks involved in going to the Hull Fair (drugs, being mugged etc), Covid would be way down the list.

He's presumably in school or college so he's potentially exposed to Covid daily for hours. Hull Fair is also mainly in the fresh air so likely to be LESS risky than school/college!

Besides it's estimated that around 50% of teenagers have had Covid - many asymptomatically - with this rising all the time. You're just going to have make your peace with the fact he will very likely get Covid at some point (and may have already done so!).

In short, stopping him going to the fair would be a completely futile and pointless act, that will needlessly cause tension between you and your son.

MeredithGreyishblue · 15/09/2021 21:39

Covid would be so far down my list of worries about Hull Fair!

And he'd need to promise me a bag of brandy snaps. Wright's, not the rip off ones.

ConsulTremas · 15/09/2021 22:20

Yes, big time.
