No visitors on post natal ward!

Friend might need a c section in a few weeks as baby not head down. Was told today that they’re a covid special hospital or something so no visitors on post natal ward.
It’s her first baby and they’re both double vaccinated. Wtf?!
Hospital is north middlesex in north London.
I’ve told her to come to my local hospital (south london) allowing visitors 10-10 and her DH can stay in our spare room!
She’s so stressed out!
I had my baby in covid lockdown and DH could still visit 2-7pm on wards!

@poptartsRUs

"She’s asked her consultant to transfer there and was told no as they don’t have capacity for new patients."

Probably because they are being effected by covid!

New maternity patients. Not all patients absolutely. I assume because all women in the trust heading to Whittington!

I'm booked in for a section in a couple of weeks and whilst it's understandably distressing, the ward staff are stretched and having extra bodies in there is stressful. I have just come out of my local maternity unit (was admitted as I thought I was going into early labour) they have two hour visiting slots for birth parters who had to show negative LFTs on arrival. But there were ladies on the ward who were breast feeding/having internal examinations/discussions with consultants and midwives regarding intimate issues and frankly it made for uncomfortable listening, so when you've got a ward full of noisy visitors it doesn't make for a nice experience at all. The midwives were doing their best to get round all ladies when they were pressing their buzzers though considering how stretched they were. Sadly it's the way of it at the moment and I dont see it getting any better for a long while.

@StarCat2020

I suppose having a baby in this current climate we kinda knew what we were risking, as in possibly not having partners in No, just no.

Do not for one minute even think that you should have expected the current situation 9 months ago.

Do not forget we were in a brilliant place as a nation before Delta.

There is only one person to blame for this shitshow and that isn't you or I or any of us.

Perhaps you didn't expect it but when I started trying to get pregnant I ppl then were refusing the vaccine and it seemed fairly obvious to me what way things could go. Obviously I hoped not but I think it's naive to not have considered the possibility.

I don't get who you are referencing as to blame sorry.

The no visitors rule is in place across whole hospitals not just postnatal wards.

I was admitted on Sunday for gallstones, had surgery Wednesday and was released yesterday. No visitors allowed, even clothing drop offs were done to ward reception not handed over direct to patients.

The only exceptions were under 18s and people who were particularly vulnerable due to things like dementia, learning needs etc.

Was just going to say this - this is what it is like for everyone in hospitals atm. My relative had to receive very difficult diagnosis news alone, and then all the following treatments and operations with minimal visiting. It’s awful for both patients and relatives atm

Kitkatchunkyplease · 18/09/2021 14:42

I agree it is awful. My mum recently died alone in hospital as there were no visitors. At least post natal wards get visiting hours, even if it is a shame.

That's awful and I'm sorry that your relative had to go through that.

DH has a problem with his hip and probably needs to be referred to get it looked at. The problem is he's partially deaf and in normal times I would go with him to listen. He's understandably reluctant to go for treatment when he won't hear half of what's said.

LIZS · 19/09/2021 14:06

@PinkSparklyPussyCat they allow carers to attend appointments. My ndn has accompanied her dh.

MargaretThursday · 19/09/2021 14:16

The upside is that other peoples' partners aren't allowed in either, which she might be very thankful for. Grin

It’s absolutely ridiculous, I’m watching my friends go to clubs/festivals getting drunk and dancing together. Yet me and thousands of other women are being restricted from having our nearest and dearest there after we’ve given birth, arguably the most intimate time in a woman’s life and he can’t be there after..

Illogical.

I had a baby in lockdown no1 and I’m about to have another under the same restrictions I won’t be as scared this time because I know what to expect BUT there are many women who will be just as scared as I was last year.

foreverlobsters · 19/09/2021 14:24

I had a section recently and my husband wasn't allowed on the postnatal ward at all. Thankfully as it was my second baby I didn't find it that bad at all- the thought of it was much worse than the reality.
