Travel after having Covid

redtulip12 · 15/09/2021 19:53

I have booked a family holiday to Spain. For half term. My dd had Covid in August and have just been told it is likely she will still test positive on the fit to fly pcr test she needs to have.
Does anyone have experience of travel after Covid. Unfortunately Spain won't accept the Covid pass you can get which shows she has had it.

My relative returned home (abroad) which a negative PCR within 3 weeks of catching and recovering from covid, they was double vaccinated though

MissAmbrosia · 15/09/2021 19:55

Spain should normally accept an antibody test - the EU rules are vaccinated, recovered, or negative test..

redtulip12 · 15/09/2021 20:11

@MissAmbrosia apparently they don't accept it from the UK. Same as they won't accept the certificate that she had it - Seems Brexit has messed things up.

It is possibly that people can test positive for ages but I don't think it's likely - where have you read that?

Presume LFTs are currently negative?

I would think it extremely unlikely that she will test positive in October.
My dBiL had a positive test and then travelled abroad with a negative PCR a fortnight later

redtulip12 · 15/09/2021 20:48

@Frazzled2207 that's good to hear. I rang 119 test and trace and they said it's 99% likely she would still test positive!!

two months after having it???
Are you sure they didn't mean the other way round. I think this is possible but very unlikely

redtulip12 · 15/09/2021 21:41

@Frazzled2207
Yes, she said can still test positive for 90 days. That's why you can get a Covid Pass to say you've had it in last 6 months but Spain won't accept it from the UK

Yes you can. But it’s vvvv unlikely.

My mum tested negative on PCR test a month after catching covid.

ImInStealthMode · 15/09/2021 22:21

Hi OP, due to my work I've become a bit of an expert on Spanish travel regulations and they do accept a certificate of recovery from the UK. Clients of mine have been travelling with them all summer.

The Spanish Health form is here and it states lower on that page what is accepted. Some sources say a recovery certificate must be translated into Spanish but I've had clients travel with it in English and have no issue.

spth.gob.es

That said, if she's under 12 no certification is required at all anyway.

redtulip12 · 15/09/2021 22:43

Thanks @ImInStealthMode that does look like she is covered. Trouble is the Uk government site says

'Certificates of recovery - a medical document certifying that you have recovered from COVID-19 in the last 6 months prior to travel - is not currently accepted for arrivals from the UK. See the Spanish Ministry of Health ‘Travel and COVID-19’’_ page for details.

And the Tui page says the same. 119 don't seem to know, just want to ensure if we turn up with just the certificate we won't get turned away!

I tested negative on PCR 4 weeks after my positive PCR.

redtulip12 · 15/09/2021 22:56

Pleased to hear so many have tested negative. Guess it could be a nervous wait to find out whether we will be going or not!

ImInStealthMode · 15/09/2021 22:59

@redtulip12 Given that the UK government site is still showing incorrect information about passport validity post-Brexit I'm more inclined to believe the Spanish one.

I have 200 clients a week travelling to Spain at the moment and not a single one of them has been turned away all summer (obviously they're a mix of vaccine cert, PCR result and recovery cert).

You could always use a belt & braces, get the recovery certificate but have her do the PCR just before you go anyway; if it's negative then use that result, if it shows positive then you have it as a fall back.

redtulip12 · 15/09/2021 23:18

@ImInStealthMode good point about government site!
Have a friend going to Canaries with same issue. Do you know if advice would be the same there too as it's part of Spain?

If pcr comes back positive she would still have to isolate for 10 days according to lady I spoke to at track and trace so would prefer to use the certificate if I can

Following….

ImInStealthMode · 16/09/2021 07:30

@redtulip12 Yes as far as I know the same applies for all of Spain including Canaries and Balearics.

Good point about the PCR, didn't think of that. Is she testing negative or positive on LFT tests at the moment? Could you use those as a barometer?

ImInStealthMode · 16/09/2021 10:29

@redtulip12 I've sent you a DM :)

Altonbeck · 06/10/2021 13:53

Not sure if anyone in the know is still about but would be very grateful for some help.
Booked to fly to Tenerife on 16th.
14yr old tested positive for covid on a PCR test on 4th, rest of the family all negative
Can we get her a certificate of recovery and go?
Cannot get a definite answer anywhere!
Thanks in advance x

Livvygator · 06/10/2021 13:57

Get a PCR test done now (in addition to 72 hours before) and see what the result is. I did that for my dd who had Covid in August. Her's came back negative.... So now not so worried about the pcr's b4 we fly

Livvygator · 06/10/2021 13:58

119 are useless. Everytime I've called them its been pointless

Livvygator · 06/10/2021 14:00

Sorry I thought I was replying directly! I should have pressed quote. My replies were for redtulip12

redtulip12 · 06/10/2021 20:26

Thanks @Livvygator. I did think about that but we don't want her to miss school if she comes back positive.

I tested negative 4 weeks after testing positive and was able to travel.
