School vaccination ploughing ahead!

Just had a letter from my son's school stating the day the NHS trust has allocated for 12-15yo covid vaccinations at their school - 2 weeks time. He's at the very oldest end of the band and we're happy for him to have it. But I'm just interested to know if anyone else's local Trust's have actioned the process so quickly!

Makes you realise it was always going to happen despite what the JCVI recommended!!

GnomeyGnome · 15/09/2021 12:37

We haven't heard anything yet. That's very speedy! Did the letter make it clear it was optional? I remember on the flu vaccination consent forms in primary they asked for a reason if you declined, does yours have anything similar?

PurpleDaisies · 15/09/2021 12:37

They have been preparing for this for a while. They were just waiting for the go.

MrsLCSofLichfield · 15/09/2021 12:38

No, I haven't heard anything yet but I'm glad things are moving, can't come soon enough!

Or makes you realise they were prepared for either option and so could stand the service up at short notice. Which isn't really the same thing.
ColettesEarrings · 15/09/2021 15:30

@GnomeyGnome Definitely optional yes - in fact the letter also clearly states that they absolutely will not proceed without parental consent. Quite explicit, and contrary to what we've been seeing in the press.

Yes. Fuck knows why government ministers have been suggesting otherwise.

Had a letter today to say DS school are doing the jabs next Thursday. School nurses are in doing hpv jabs so timed to coincide. DS can’t have it as he is off with covid now. No idea what the arrangements will be for him to have it later.

I think the first port of call here will be drop in clinics in the community, before vaccs at school. They seem determined to get as many kids done as quickly as possible.

Orangejuicemarathoner · 15/09/2021 15:55

Well, we were told weeks ago that schools were preparing to be ready to offer flu vaccinations, so all the ground work would have been in place for that

Wakemeuuuup · 15/09/2021 16:44

My ds in yr10 is getting his normal teen jabs in 2 weeks so who knows when he'll get his covid jab

BananaPB · 15/09/2021 16:45

Flu jabs at our school on Friday. Not heard about Covid jabs yet

Faircastle · 15/09/2021 17:01

Most schools have a date already booked this term for the first dose of the HPV vaccine, so many of the school immunisation teams will use that date.

Underhisi · 15/09/2021 17:16

Ds eligible because of being CEV is still waiting for his first vaccination. GP group is waiting for vaccine delivery and doesn't know when it will be available.
