If you’ve had covid lately when did you start to feel better?

I’m on day 6 now. Feeling pretty rough but I realise it could be a lot worse. Breathing is fine. Have a minor cough, pretty nasty headache which comes and goes, very tired, feverish on and off, no appetite and I feel sweaty and dizzy when I stand up. I’ve basically just been in bed since symptoms began.

I know I’m lucky that I don’t seem to be deteriorating, but the last few days I’ve felt pretty much exactly the same. I don’t feel well enough to cook a meal or even unload the dishwasher.

I’m hoping that I will turn a corner soon, at the moment it feels like this is going to go on forever. If you’ve had covid lately which day was the turning point for you in terms of recovery?

Day 11 here. The first week I stayed in bed , hot& sweaty and vomited a few times.
Then migrated to chair in bedroom for rest of isolation.
I was out of isolation at noon yesterday and went for a gentle walk with a flask of hot chocolate and sat looking over the bay. Managed 5000 steps in total. Today I did the income tax return just to see if my brain was clearer and then went for a walk and picked blackberries. Home for a rest then out again . 8500 steps. I am pleased with my progress but find it hard to talk for long and walking and talking is hard.
Taste and smell is back. Double jabbed and I consider myself lucky. I finished chemo in Feb 2020 and had a mastectomy in march 2020 and the second mastectomy in march 2021.
Take heart and keep on keeping on! This time last week I saw no light at the end of the tunnel but improvements happened !

Hi OP,

I had exactly the same symptoms as you, plus incredibly achy and sinus pain, sneezing etc as well as feeling blocked up.

The dizziness and lightheaded ness was awful. I am now day 9 and I am still feeling nowhere near normal, but have definitely turned a corner.

I still feel very tired, and lightheaded if I do too much, but the aches have gone and temperature has settled. It’s still on the high side of normal for me (just under 38) but not the high it was.

I’m going back to work on Thursday as my isolation will be done by then so I will see how that goes.

Hope you feel better soon.

Day 21 here. Been admitted to hospital twice in that time.

Started feeling better after the second admission. Can now breathe normally but taste and smell still not back to normal.

The biggest thing is I'm struggling to walk. Legs feel like jelly and on top of that I have brain fog and I'm constantly tired, no matter how much I sleep.

There's other weird symptoms too but I'm just thankful I didn't end up on a ventilator. Not sure I would've made it back from that.

Good luck in your recovery x

How do you work out when your isolation is over?

hopingforabrighterfuture2021 · 14/09/2021 20:47

@InTheNameOfAllThatIsHonest if you had a positive PCR, the text/email tells you when your isolation finishes.

If you had symptoms, it’s the day you started having symptoms plus 10 days. If asymptomatic, 10 days from the day you took test.

hopingforabrighterfuture2021 · 14/09/2021 20:47

If you still have a temperature after your isolation finishes however, you’re supposed to keep isolating.

Thanks for the replies, it’s lifted my spirits to read them. Sorry to hear you ended up in hospital @samwitwicky, was that because of breathing difficulties?

I’ve also lost my smell and taste, I really hope they return soon, it’s really taken any enjoyment out of eating…not that I’m at all hungry anyway!

Yes breathing difficulties. The first time, my breathing had got worse throughout the day and by evening I was struggling, so DH took me to A&E.

Second time I got up from bed and just couldn't take a breath in, so ambulance was called. Once admitted my antibiotics were changed and that made a huge difference.

5 weeks here and two hospital admissions, double vaccinated. I've made a lot of progress in the last week but like @samwitwicky my main problem now is difficulty walking. Shortness of breath now only on exertion, taste and smell about 50%. The most I've been able to walk is about 500m by which time my legs feel weak and like jelly, but each day is slightly better than the last. I also lost 12lb in weight which has all gone back on Blush

It helps a lot to know I'm not the only one with walking difficulties. It's such a strange symptom! Thanks for sharing x

CatAlice · 14/09/2021 22:42

@samwitwicky it is strange, and interesting you have the same symptom as I thought it was just me.
More strange because every other symptom has really improved. I was struggling to walk before I went into hospital but it wasn't the reason I was admitted. That was low sats and breathing difficulties.

The legs thing isn't just fatigue either, although I do get exhausted easily. It's very odd.

Same for me! Every other symptom has improved. My taste and smell are slowly returning, breathing is back to normal but for the life of me I cannot walk properly. My knees give way, my legs feel like jelly and I sometimes feel like they're not connected to my body. I get this weird 'floaty' feeling sometimes, and sometimes feel like I'm being pushed/pulled or that the ground is tilting. So very strange, I can't wrap my head around it!

Thank you. What if you tested positive/are still testing positive? It's all so confusing!

hopingforabrighterfuture2021 · 15/09/2021 12:59

@InTheNameOfAllThatIsHonest what do you mean sorry? The infection can show as present in your system (ie a positive test) for up to 90 days post infection, so that’s why you shouldn’t test in that time, although I’m unsure what happens if you recover but get new symptoms within the 90 days…

BoomChicka · 15/09/2021 13:17

I had cold symptoms for about 4 days, tiredness for 2 weeks and loss of taste and smell around 4/5 weeks.

I started with symptoms on Tuesday and tested positive on Sunday (I WFH so didn't go anywhere in between). I'm now fine, no more symptoms, but understand that I may still test positive after the ten days from Tuesday, even though I no longer have symptoms. So I'm unclear as to whether I need to keep on isolating or not if I test positive. Or whether I shouldn't test again and just resume normal life.
