Help with tests for US to UK travel

I have been tasked with helping a colleague who is travelling from the US to our UK office next week. She is only here for three days- how will that work with the 2 day tests? Will she also have to have one before departure, so two tests? When would she need to take them?

Has anyone done this trip recently and can help? Thanks!

According to the government website, they still need to book and pay for the day 2 test, but only need to take it if they're still in the country on day 2.

For going back, I think they could get away with using the same test, because they issue you with a 'fit to fly' certificate (or at least the day 2 ones we used did).

Thank you @GotLittUp, that's really helpful- it's a minefield!

Can I ask who you used for your day 2 tests?

We used Halo - which are saliva tests (because I knew it would be easier than trying to swab my young kids!) - they're quite expensive though and there are a lot cheaper ones available - worth looking to see if they say you'll get a certificate that can be used to fly - I'm sure a lot of them just treat each test the same regardless of whether its a pre or post flight test.

If she's going to do that OP she will need to make sure that her Day 2 test result is received in time for her to catch her return flight to the US, as that negative test result is required as a condition of boarding any US-bound aircraft. Therefore, she needs to use a that guarantees results within the time frame she needs for her return flight.

Thanks both. I think I have it-

I can order her a day 2 test (that produces a fit to fly certificate) in advance to me in the office. When she arrives here (day 0) she can do the test and then get the results back on day 1 (I would choose a supplier who does a 24 hour turnaround). She could then use that as her day 2 result and also as her return test result to get back into the US when she flies out on day 3.

God it's so confusing!
