Trace & Trace lunacy

DC tested positive for C19 less than a month ago. Did 10 days of isolation and we pushed back our family holiday to Spain by a week.

On our return from Spain we did the mandatory LFT before flying home, which was fine, and the day 2 PCR test. It's taken 6 days for the test result to come back and DC is positive. T&T / 119 are adamant that DC must do. 10 days isolation despite it being an obvious false positive.

I am livid that DC will now miss the second week of secondary school due to a lack of common sense in the isolation rules. If NHS T&T have a recorded case of C19 within 90 days surely it should be treated as emanating from the original infection for which isolation has already been completed rather than treating it as a new case requiring further isolation.

I do get where you are coming from, but unfortunately there is no way of being 100% sure this is not a new infection.

It’s one of the reasons I decided not to travel abroad this year.

Test and trace rules are stipulated by Public Health England (or whichever country you are in)

Im not too impressed with T & T. My husband emailed them twice to say ds was positive and they said they’d ring back. They didn’t and then they had the audacity to say they’d called us back and we weren’t in! We’ve been nowhere! We did our own T & T and let those people know we needed to

SweetBabyCheeses99 · 12/09/2021 16:52

It is ludicrous, but that’s because you think you’re playing a game that is logical and has coherent rules.

If you decide to play the game by taking the tests in the first place then you need to accept that it may lead to completely nonsense results and could seriously inconvenience you for no real reason.

The only way to avoid this to not take the tests. The responsible thing to do would be stay home if sick and carry on if not. Otherwise you are complicit in signing up to a lifetime of this bollocks.

blameitonthecaffeine · 12/09/2021 16:57

NHS tell you not to do tests for 90 days after infection as they will likely be positive.

Everywhere else that checks status is double vaxx, negative test OR evidence of recent infection.

Are holidays different? Seems unfair but if they are different I guess just can't go on holiday for 3 months after having Vocid. Which is ridiculous.

GoingBacktoSchool123 · 12/09/2021 17:45

Complete contradiction in regulations since you are not supposed to take a repeat PCR within 90 days of having Covid for exactly this reason but you have to take a PCT test when coming back from am amber list country despite their being no quarantine requirement for double vaxxed and under 18s.

I feel your pain OP. This is completely ridiculous and so unfair on your DS. Can you send him to school anyway? Will they know?

GoingBacktoSchool123 · 12/09/2021 19:06

I wouldn't want to put anyone at risk by sending DC in and it's against the law anyway. But I am literally being harangued by T&T who have called at least 5 times today. I spoke to them first thing and gave all DC's details plus the rest of the family as close contacts. Then separate calls to provide 'advice' to each family member all of which are exempt due to double vaxx / under 18 and they are still calling. I've stopped answering, Ore fool them if they send someone round but DC will be here, hopefully in virtual lessons if school is able to arrange.
