To send dd2 to school...

Lovemusic33 · 12/09/2021 07:54

Dd1 and I tested positive on Thursday, dd2 was at school so didn't test her until Friday, her test was negative but since then she has developed a snotty nose and is sneezing a lot, I have done several LFT on her and all negative. I need to decide if she should go to school tomorrow? Or should I book her another PCR test?

Dd2 is autistic and getting her to do the test correctly isn't easy and it causes a lot of stress bit I'm worried the LFT is wrong and mine shows negative too when the PCR says I'm positive.

I need to decide in the next few hours what to do as I have to inform her taxi wetuer she's going in tomorrow or not.

If she has symptoms of Covid you should test her. Snotty nose and sneezing are not symptoms.

ConfusedFox · 12/09/2021 07:56

I think she has to have a PCR test, especially as showing symptoms?

PieceOfString · 12/09/2021 07:58

I think another pcr would be the way forward. Officially young don't need to be off school for close contact now but pcr treat is asked for. I think the fact that she has a new symptom (albeit not one of the official ones, but then you can have no symptoms at all so..) . My dd has similar problems doing the test so the assistants said blow her nose as hard as you can and get a sample on the stick from that.

itsgettingwierd · 12/09/2021 08:03

I have a snotty nose and I'm sneezing. Pretty normal the first week back after holidays!

I do LFT twice weekly still as they are asking school staff to continue this although we no longer have to register them.

I have no covid symptoms so won't be PCR testing even though ds has had a PCR (no results yet) as a close contact at college last Monday. He is also negative on LFT and has no symptoms.

TheCatInTheChat · 12/09/2021 08:05

Well, they’re not on the official list of things to get tested for. But yes, they ARE symptoms.

OP - I think she needs another PCR.

Lovemusic33 · 12/09/2021 08:09

Thank you she did have some symptoms before the last PCR, she had a slight temp and a dry throat. Her dad (who she was with last weekend) has a cold and has tested negative so it could be just a cold.

Every case I’ve known recently has had a runny nose and negative LFT, I’d definitely do a PCR test without a doubt. Certainly wouldn’t be sending them into school ill when there are positive cases in the household.

LBB2020 · 12/09/2021 08:23

DH and I both tested positive last week after starting with what we thought were cold symptoms (runny nose, sneezing, headache). I’d definitely get a PCR test and keep her off school until you get the result. Hope you’re all on the mend soon x

whatswithtodaytoday · 12/09/2021 08:29

Please don't. I know it's allowed now, but it's completely ridiculous.

@GoodnightGrandma Yes, they are symptoms of Covid. Our government have chosen not to update their advice and testing criteria, but they are still symptoms.

Looneytune253 · 12/09/2021 08:32

I would defo take for another PCR or keep off school. I know the rules have changed now but the chances of her getting it will be higher and it's not right to put that risk on to her classmates and teachers and whoever takes her to school. I know what the rules say but I think this is how it's gonna spread

GoodnightGrandma · 12/09/2021 08:33

But they’re not the official symptoms, and they could be the symptoms of other things. She is well within her rights to send the child to school. Whether morally she should is a different thing.
Lovemusic33 · 12/09/2021 08:34

I have booked another PCR in a hours time.

Dd1 started with a snotty nose and head ache, she hasn't stopped sneezing since Wednesday, cough came later. I have had no symptoms at all really and LFT keeps saying negative even though PCR is positive so I don't trust the LFT.

She goes to a SEN school so I wouldn't forgive myself if she took it in and a vulnerable child caught it. Also she travels in a taxi for a hour with 2 others.

I think I would do another PCR. Lateral flow shouldn’t be done with potential symptoms

Gizlotsmum · 12/09/2021 08:35

Sorry missed your last post, horrible as it is better safe than sorry ;)

Porcupineintherough · 12/09/2021 08:56

I'd just assume she has it and keep her home given that she has symptoms and you k ow you have the virus in the house.

Happymum12345 · 12/09/2021 09:01

Snotty nose and sneezing were the only symptoms of my ds.
2 negative lateral flow test and positive pcr.

NotDonna · 12/09/2021 09:11

You’ve just said in your last post that she has a cough, which is a symptom so keep at home until PCR back. Hope you all get well soon!

HighTee · 12/09/2021 09:25

I'd keep her off as you are going to be at home anyway. It's not worth the stress of a PCR test as my the time you get one through the post and then get the results back you will be almost out of isolation anyway.

JassyRadlett · 12/09/2021 09:27

But they’re not the official symptoms, and they could be the symptoms of other things.

Coughs and fevers can also be symptoms of other things.

We know that with delta, the most common symptoms are not what they were with Wuhan or alpha. Runny nose and headache are much more common. Lots of science on this - Tim Spector is good to follow for more info.

Thirtyrock39 · 12/09/2021 10:12

My two currently positive kids have had no classic symptoms - no cough or temp- but are wiped out and full of cold . I sent ds in for two days after dd had a positive as is allowed (he had also had a negative pcr at that point) then in the second day he felt poorly and was positive on a lateral flow, I still feel guilty for sending him in even though I wasn't technically doing anything wrong

JustABloodyMinute · 12/09/2021 10:35

PCR will give you peace of mind. It could be a cold, but better to know one way of the other.

JustSayingItHowItIs · 12/09/2021 10:37

Yes PCR. I tested 2 year old DS yesterday. He touched the swab then it hit the phone 🤦🏻‍♀️. We got them back this morning was surprised how quick it was actually.

Lovemusic33 · 12/09/2021 11:06

@NotDonna

You’ve just said in your last post that she has a cough, which is a symptom so keep at home until PCR back. Hope you all get well soon!
She’s hardly coughed at all, it’s her sister that’s coughing. She just has a stuffy nose and sneezing, very slight temp.

We have been, not sure how accurate it will be, I did the best I could wrestling her in the car by myself (she’s 15 and autistic, it’s not easy). Luckily the test site has a on site lab so results are taking around 12-24 hours. I will keep her home tomorrow even if we get a negative as I won’t have time to sort out her taxi and to speak to school for her to go in tomorrow.

Lovemusic33 · 12/09/2021 16:14

We have results back already and she's negative so her runny nose must just be a cold (or where I've been swabing her nose every day 🤣). I'm not sure how she hasn't caught it as she's around me all the time, I provide personal care for her so can't keep my distance. I'm guessing she may have already had it and had no symptoms.
