Covid antibody results

I’ve had an antibody test to check for previous infection and the receptionist at my surgery tells me the result is ‘normal.’ I was expecting negative or positive...

I assume this means negative but any wisdom gratefully received. (The receptionist couldn’t give any more info and my call with dr is not for 10 days) I’m double vaxxed if that makes a difference.

Interesting I'd say normal means no anti bodies?

TheBraveLittleTailor · 10/09/2021 21:03

Normal antibodies for someone double-jabbed but who hasn’t had Covid, maybe?
Bloody annoying whatever it means.

Well quite, such odd wording. I have post viral fatigue symptoms in line with long covid but guess I must have managed to catch a different virus.

There was a recent study that found almost 40% of people don't produce antibodies after infection and that number increases for women and is higher the younger you are. I haven't been able to find any studies on this, but I wouldn't be surprised if you're less likely to produce antibodies against the N gene (which is what infection only antibody tests look for) if you've had covid after being vaccinated.

We had ant body tests with a company and my husband's came back strong positive (the example was equivalent to two vaccines) and mine moderate positive (the example was equivalent to one vaccine which is worrying as I have had two vaccines).
I would assume normal meant that you have the normal antibody levels of someone who has has two vaccines. Personally I would call back and try and catch a different receptionist - they often can see the figures so I would ask for those. When we get blood tests back the blood test company says 'normal' on our results so people without medical training can read them. But if you want the figures next to the word normal you might have to press for those.

I hope you feel better soon!
My husband had this problem recently that the receptionist wouldn’t give actual figures where they always had in the past, and he had to get them from a doctor when available.

@QueenStromba That’s interesting, thank you. Mid 40s and caught whatever it was 8 weeks after 1st jab. It presented as a mild cold with lots of sneezing, negative lateral flow. No ‘core’ covid symptoms so didn’t get a pcr.

@ittakes2 thanks, I’ll try the surgery again on Monday and press for more detail!
