Isolation confusion

Dc3 has woken this morning with a cough, sore throat and fever so I'll be booking him a PCR test. I'm confused about the self isolation rules for the rest of us. I'm fully vaccinated and other dc are under 18. I'll be isolating with dc3 anyway due to age but can the others go to school? Do they stay off until the PCR is back? I knew what was what before but this rule change has thrown me. Older dc had an LFT yesterday as full of cold and as part of regular school testing and it was negative.

only dc3 has to isolate. If positive you all get a pcr, but don't need to isolate until the results.

If anyone else gets symptoms they get a pcr and isolate until they get the results.
If anyone else tests positive they start their own 10 days isolation.

Yea we are in the same position. So our kid with the cough is getting a test and staying home with my OH. My eldest is going to school and I’m going to work. If it’s positive we can carry on anyway (with an optional pcr) unless we get symptoms and a positive test.

Mindymomo · 10/09/2021 07:39

What Kimlo above has said, but if older DC is full of cold, maybe get a PCR test for that child and keep off school today. Pre covid I wouldn’t be sending child to school full of cold.

FlatteredFool · 10/09/2021 07:39

Thank you. It seems madness to send older dc to school.

She's just come down looking like death warmed up so I'm booking PCRs for both today and keeping them off.

I taught 9 kids this week with family members at home with covid! And that’s just the ones who told me

Covidworries · 10/09/2021 07:47

Please dont send children to school if housegold has a positive. Their are CEV children having to attend school.
If you are sending please make sure the school know amd if possible share on social media so parents can make an informed choice based on the full information

Depends where you live too In Scotland you all isolate and take PCR tests. Anyone with a negative test is released from isolation (if double jabbed or under 18)

We are in England. I've booked tests for this morning.

You send your other children to school. If your DC tests positive they isolate for 10 days but other family members don't.

It's not madness. Covid isn't going away and we can't all shut ourselves away every time a family member catches it. As long as hospitalisations and deaths remain low then I don't see the issue.

@Covidworries

Unfortunately that isn’t the guidance any more and kids with family members with covid are expected in school. Also they can’t afford to miss another week of education!

Covidworries · 10/09/2021 08:07

Which is why i also said if you are sending please make others aware as for children that are CEV it would be helpful to know if cases are in the school enviroment.
Most CEV children have missed even more school than non vunerable children but for the sake of an extra couple of weeks while it rips through the school i would rather know when that is likely to happen so that i can remove child for a short time to increase their chances of not being ill.

No choice children have to go to school, this is clear in the guidance from schools to parents.
holidaynearlyover · 10/09/2021 08:10

@Covidworries but parents don't know who is CEV so how can they let you know. It's a worrying time and I agree with you but children will be mixing with others who are in contact with those who are positive all the time now.

My school hasn't asked to be informed 🤷🏼‍♀️

Covidworries · 10/09/2021 08:15

School may not have been asked to be informed doesnt mean you cant still inform. I have seen people posting on their social media to make others aware, so its not imposible to try and make sure others know.

RoseWineTime · 10/09/2021 08:45

Unfortunately I think you can assume covid is everywhere now including in all schools.

FlatteredFool · 10/09/2021 10:00

Tests all done now and just need to wait for the results. I think a movie and sofa day is in order.
