Are 16/17 yr old considered fully vaccinated?

Planning for a trip and I’m trying to work out if my DD17 who has had one dose of the vaccine is considered fully vaccinated or do I need to book her a fit to fly test. I can’t find a clear answer online!

I don't think they can be left in limbo with one jab when fully vaccinated status is required for a number of things.

DS 17 had his first at the end of August and turns 18 next March. If he has to wait until then he'll be quite a long way outside of the 8-12 weeks recommendation.

From a medical perspective I think he'd probably be fine only ever having the one (and given his age he'd probably be fine unvaccinated) he has no health conditions and it's possible he's already been exposed through school or college at some point.

From a practical perspective though he's going to need it if he ever wants to travel, attend concerts etc... with relative ease.

@WombatChocolate

I thought the risk of myocarditis was stronger in younger teens. I think 60 in 1 million boys developed it and 8 in 1 million girls, after a 2nd jab. Was also the case that for healthy children, the myocarditis was mild with quick recovery in majority of cases. Those who had more severe reactions, already had other health conditions.

I’m sure they are gathering more evidence every week and by the time they have to reach a decision to make the 12 week window, they will have gathered another 8 weeks or so of info.

When they make that decision next week about 12-15s, if the jab is offered (likely I think, but only guessing) then again it will probably just be that 1st dose, probably with a view to reviewing and deciding about 2nd doses a few weeks down the line again.

I do think 2nd jabs will be approved for anyone approved for 1. This is already the case for children 12-15 with other conditions.

The risk of myocarditis appears to be a lot lower after one jab. And in terms of efficacy a booster for the vulnerable is likely to be the priority. Probably had to adjust plans somewhat because of the delays with novavax

Dd17.5 has been fully vaxxed since last month. She got her first jab as an end of day leftover one from the local chemist and then I booked her in for her second no problem... I had no idea they were currently only offering one jab 🤔

Yes what will happen if they need vaccine passports to travel? Any guesses on when the decision might be made for 2nd jabs for 16s & 17s?

My 16yo had a first jab in July at a clinic using up doses. The local walk in refused to give her a second one last week (8 weeks since first one). Booked for today using the online NHS service for a second jab - I had to enter her DOB and it "knew" it was her second. Chose a vaccination centre being administered by a local pharmacy - was upfront that she was 16 and it was her second jab and they gave it no problem at all. This might help others who are ahead of the 16yo mass rollout timeline.

Thanks for posting @Absolutechaos, I’m the one with the Dd that has an appt for her 2nd jab in October - we’ve looked at all the figures I can find about risk factors (not youtube ‘research!) & she will be turning up for the appointment. If they turn her away that’s fine, but if she can have it she will.

My Dd just had her first vaccine. She is 16 and was told that she won't get another until she is 18 and is classed as fully vaccinated.

I explained that we know others who have had 2 and they were shocked. So seems different all around the country!

A quick update - Just had a phone call to cancel DD's second vaccine, the lady on the phone said it's only available if she works in a care home or lives with someone classed as extremely vulnerable.

She said she is having to spend the day cancelling appointments as the system had let so many people book when they shouldn't
