Testing abroad

Hi, I can't seem to find an answer to this on the gov website other than "you may not be able to board the plane" I am looking at green and amber and can't see much difference anyway as I am double jabbed....but if you were to get a negative test result before flying home what would happen? I know loads of people who have been on holidays this summer and so wondering why they took the risk?!

Do you mean a positive result?
We flew back from Crete 2 weeks ago and think we would have had to go into a quarantine hotel in Greece at their government’s expense if we had tested positive.
It varies by country though for how long/who pays

Sorry I did indeed mean positive!

@RoseWineTime how was the test organised?

I considered it a small risk as I travelled to a country with a much lower incidence of Covid than the U.K. currently has. Plus I had travel insurance that would cover an extended stay as well as medical expenses. Also, you only have to do an antigen (lateral flow) test to return to the U.K. which are not as sensitive as PCRs. Finally (and this was not my intention but could explain why some people are happy to travel), it is easy to “cheat” on the tests to return given that you can use providers where you only have to upload a photo of the test and then get a fit to fly cert.

We booked lateral flow tests at the local medical centre as that was cheapest.

If positive result on fit to fly test whilst abroad, then you quarantine over there til negative, your insurance should cover this, best check it does as quarantine hotels aren't free .

Its a risk thst I and many others have taken. I wfh, so took my laptop each time in case, and my oh is able to just take more time off if needed .
But the possibility of staying an extra 10 days is something you need to factor in
