Double jabbed.

Day 1 (9 days ago) had runny nose but otherwise OK.

day 3 woke in the night feeling hot and breathless with temp of 38.6 followed by D and V. for the rest of the day. Shaking and feeling freezing cold. Temp going from low to high. No cough, can't take a proper breath so have to move slowly. PulseOx 93/94 (normally 97)

Had to force myself to drink as even water tasted horribly bitter.
Drenching night sweats.
High and low temps continued.

On Day 9 now and feeling better, normal temp for 24 hrs able to do more. Can breathe more deeply but it sets off coughing fits. No sputum.
Trying to eat but everything still tastes bitter.

Got neg PCR result yesterday.
Could this be another virus? Or false neg PCR result?

The typical covid symptoms are also typical of lots of other viruses and infections.

Plenty fluids and rest up - phone your gp if you’re worried. Get well soon Flowers

Thanks, that's what I thought but then I looked up the Public Health England site and the number of other acute respiratory illnesses (apart from Covid) is currently very low.
Just unlucky I guess.

Yep, I’ve had all the covid symptoms more than once and (several) negative PCR’s.

When I had covid, I didn’t have any of the symptoms 😂🙈 I did eventually lose my taste but it took about 8 days.

Bobholll · 08/09/2021 12:44

Also, that thing about other respiratory illness being very low might be true in adults but it certainly isn’t in children. My DD’s have both been in hospital with different ones & the doctors said they are insanely busy with respiratory illness in children. Ones that normally present in winter all hit in summer this year as lockdown eased up!

Coffeeanddarkchoc · 08/09/2021 12:45

Yep theres a very similar virus to covid going around. I had it and took about 5 weeks to get over it.

Whatshouldicallme · 08/09/2021 12:47

It could be another nasty virus, or could be a false negative. I know someone who tested negative when symptoms started and carried on thinking it was a cold until she got very poorly and needed to be admitted to hospital. On admission she tested positive for COVID and ended up with quite a classic case and severe symptoms.

I've just spoken to the GP and he thinks it's Covid.

He said there might not have been any virus in the nose or throat as I didn't have any upper airway symptoms (I often get a runny nose due to allergies).
So if just the lungs were affected the swab wouldn't pick up any virus..

It sort of makes sense but I've not heard that explanation before. Would be interested in what others think.

I had a similar experience although did briefly test positive on a LFT by about day 10 after contact following 2 negative PCRs. Lost sense of smell after this which just confirmed it for me and was already isolating so didn't bother with any further tests.

CloudPop · 08/09/2021 16:30

I had Covid in December (confirmed in January by a positive antibody test), and tested negative 3 times (never did test positive, other than for antibodies in January and then again in July).

Bobholll · 08/09/2021 18:28

I’m not sure your GP is talking much sense there.. how on earth does he think all the asymptomatic people are testing positive?! My only symptom that prompted me to test was feeling unusually warm on & off over a couple days. No fever, just hot & sweaty. I decided to double check & it was positive. I had no upper respiratory symptoms at all.. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I think your symptoms do sound covidy, the change in taste flags. It’s an unusual symptom. Why not just re-test? Make sure you really stick it up your nose 😄

Rainydays55 · 08/09/2021 18:33

…. I’m currently feeling rough but have tested negative! Bad body aches which have lasted the last 4/5 days, tired, headachy… bit sniffly…

TeloMere · 08/09/2021 20:08

Bobholll yes I was sceptical as well but I've found some studies that seem to support what the GP said.

How can I request another PCR test?
Perhaps I'm missing something but there doesn't seem to be an option anywhere to do this after a negative test.
Temp starting to go up again this evening (after 24hrs normal temp Sad) and feeling a bit wobbly so it'd need to be a postal test.

Yes! A child in DDs class tested positive. 4 days later DD comes down with a 'cold' but doesn't seem bothered by it. Then, I develop a terrible headache, breathlessness and chest pain. Then comes flu like exhaustion, sore throat and cough. Bizarre change to sense of taste (savory only) came about day 6. Felt awful for about 10 days. LFTs negative. PCR negative. I was so convinced it was covid I avoided elderly parents for 11 days anyway just to be safe!

Wildheartsease · 08/09/2021 21:17

Three of our (pretty isolated) household got cold/cough symptoms. All similarly ill - and after a visit to a Cornish supermarket. (During the Cornish board-master covid spike.)

Only one was positive for covid on the PCR test. All negative on the lateral flow one.

I suspect that the tests are not all that reliable.

OliveTree75 · 08/09/2021 21:27

I had a virus last week (tested negative) and felt much worse than when I had covid!

sproutsandparsnips · 08/09/2021 21:27

Perhaps you tested too late? There is evidence that the virus is cleared more rapidly in vaccinated individuals and they test negative after a shorter time.
