Double vaccinated, otherwise healthy, but properly unwell with Covid? Come and sulk with me

I am so pissed off at coronavirus. I did all the things I was supposed to - masks, jabs - and now I am still sick as a dog with a positive test.

Gah. Anyone else want to complain too?

I should say we are all positive at the mo, brought home from school so hiding did nothing and only I have proper symptoms.

Someone in here said for health reasons they did anti body tests and they their anti bodies where surprising low after the cscxingey, waned in strength very quickly!

Perhaps the people who are getting quite ill didn't have a good immune response to the the vaccine. It would be interesting to know what really

I know they did an anti body test but it would be great to get to the bottom of of how people are affected by the vaccines

TheDailyCarbunkle · 08/09/2021 17:33

It's very unlikely the vaccine is what's keeping you out of ICU - the vast vast majority of people who get covid (ie millions and millions of people across the world) don't need ICU and recover at home so chances are you would have been fine without the vaccine.

The idea that you should have stayed home for longer also makes no sense - covid is now endemic and will be around for the rest of your life so no matter how long you stayed at home there would always be a chance you could get it. You will die some day so wasting more of your limited time hiding from one virus isn't sensible.

Incidentally I'm not vaccinated and have never followed any rules and haven't caught it yet - I fully expect to at some point. But really, whether you get it or not is a matter of pure luck and not about how good or obedient or careful you are.

What a load of crap.I think if you read the studies the vaccines are keeping a lot of people out of ICU.

PersonaNonGarter · 08/09/2021 17:37

The antibodies thing is actually quite a comfort really, and I agree that we’ll be as ‘safe’ as we can be after this.

But - and I do know I am catastrophising - I feel like this illness is just not appreciated by all the people merrily going about their lives until disaster strikes them. It feels as though a disease tsunami is about to hit complacent people who think vaccination has solved everything.

A small percentage of people with covid, vaccinated or unvaccinated, need ICU. So statistically the OP is much more likely to be one of the huge percentage who don't need it rather than the small percentage who do.

Pure logic states if that millions upon millions of people get through covid without ICU then the OP has a high chance of being one of those millions, rather than being part of the much smaller number who do need ICU. This isn't an ideological argument, it's an argument based on the actual real numbers and on the science that everyone is so keen on.

I think you are catastrophising to an extent in the sense that people got ill before covid so it's not exactly a new experience for anyone. But I do think there is a problem with people believing that if they're compliant and obedient they'll be rewarded by never having covid. That was never a possibility and the fact that people believe it is down to poor and inaccurate information.
MaryGubbins · 08/09/2021 17:48

I stayed home and followed the rules as I thought I was protecting others and had to do my part for society. I think that was the right thing to do at the time, I think getting vaccinated was right, if there is a fire break I’ll participate but as I am as immune as I’ll ever be and the virus came from school so I am going to get out a bit more.

It has also to be said that my husband was an original shielder (later revised) but we were still worried about him. Positive but not a single symptom. Vaccine must be credited with that.

honeygriff · 08/09/2021 17:52

I played this game in July, it was awful! I'd like to moan that the bone in my foot still hurts now! I ate some chicken skin crisps last week that were so vile my friends dog wouldn't touch them. Apparently they smelt rank. I just couldn't smell them.

stressease · 10/09/2021 08:20

15 days I’m still with a headache and feeling like I have no energy. Dosen’t help my boss thinks of it as a cold. Double vaxxed and still feeling ill so dread to think what I would have been like with no vaccine.

PersonaNonGarter · 10/09/2021 08:36

Oh @stressease big sympathy on the boss not understanding. I think I am going to have this. It’s awful, I know, but I have started wondering (wishing?) that if senior staff at my workplace could experience this illness then their approach might be different.

I don’t really want anyone to get sick, of course, but yeah people don’t have a clue. They think this is the virus circa March 2020.

Double vaccinated here. I’m on day 9 & still have a dodgy stomach and an annoying cough. What I would say is although I’ve been as ill/ more ill with previous viruses in my life time - this is the LONGEST I’ve ever been ill for sure.
I’m predicting a very disrupted winter ahead of us as high numbers of nurses/ teachers etc go down with this .
