Dutch people or anyone who knows about the Netherlands……

Hi everyone, I was wondering whether any one could help me please. I am supposed to be going to the Netherlands for a week at the end of October. Currently British residents have to quarantine for 10 days which would make the trip untenable obviously.

I can’t see to find out when Googling how often the Govt in the Netherlands review their recommendations? And I can’t get a steer on whether this might/is likely to/is unlikely to change in the next six weeks?
Thanks

This is the government website info in English and it's updated regularly

Hi there, I am Dutch and have been several times over the COVID period (live in UK). I don’t know if it is likely to change or how often they review. It changes slightly every few weeks and you could keep an eye on Dutch Embassy FB page. However, keep in mind that the Dutch government are not enforcing quarantine in the way they do here. There are no fines etc, just ‘strong advice’. There are exceptions to the quarantine which include family reunion, for example. Last visit at passport control they asked me, ‘where do you live?’ (UK) and then ‘what are you here for?’ (visiting family). Beyond that, no one cared/questioned.

DD lived in NL until recently so I was keeping an eye on the changing requirements for a while (although I live in an EU country rather than the UK). Certainly a few months ago the guidance was liable to change as often as once a week (I have a vague memory of it being issued on Tuesday at around 7pm, but don't hold me to that - and now things have eased it might only be every fortnight).
As edgeware points out, NL is more relaxed about quarantining in any case, DD knew lots of people who didn't take it very seriously after Christmas (which we obviously don't condone at all...). But until relatively recently NL wasn't advising general tourists to travel there at all - we got in because it was a family visit, although since we travelled by train within Schengen nobody actually asked us. It was actually a bit weird that there were NO other English speaking tourists there at all - the few visitors to sights were Dutch or Spanish. So you might stand out a bit more than normal.

We are going to centre parcs so a bit worried about it being really noticeable we aren’t quarantining. Also DH very very risk averse and would never ever go somewhere and not quarantine if it was “mandatory”. Sounds like there may be hope though if they keep changing the guidance. We originally booked for Easter 2020, it’s been moved four times!

I've name changed as this may be outing.

At the moment the rule is 10 days of self quarantine, but if you test negative on day 5 you can break said quarantine.

It's one of the reasons I haven't seen my parents since the pandemic started, as my employer simply won't let us WFH for "unnecessary" travel quarantine. It either comes out of your holiday allocation, or you take unpaid leave. Call me crazy, but I'd rather spend quality time with my parents than 5-10 days stuck in either a hotel room or my childhood bedroom unable to at least WFH.

Particularly frustrating when people are fucking off on jollies to the med.

There doesn't appear to be a timeframe with regards to revision.

edgeware · 07/09/2021 20:41

@ThatFriskyFeline if you are visiting your parents though you don’t have to quarantine.

edgeware · 07/09/2021 20:42

@Cotswoldhelp I get where you are coming from, you might stand out more coming in. If you have no Dutch connections it might be a bit of a gamble.

acatcalledjohn · 15/09/2021 13:20

@Cotswoldhelp

As of the 22nd of September fully vaxxed arrivals from the UK no longer have to quarantine.

Cotswoldhelp · 15/09/2021 13:26
