I went for a test as I developed a cough, hot dry throat, runny nose, feeling very achy, fatigued.
Last night I had a raised temp (37.4 but for my that is raised)

Results have come through this morning as negative.

I’m guessing I have a cold, but I don’t ever remember feeling this terrible with just a cold before.

It’s making me wonder just how bad Covid is going to be if/when I do get it.

DS tested positive last month but the rest of us managed to avoid it!

I just had covid and it wasn't at bad as my common colds. I had a cold in July, it was horrid. Then I tested positive for Covid in August. I thought I was getting a cold but it didn't seem to be developing into one properly - just had body aches one night. Test said negative. Then progressed a bit to a sniffle and sneezing, but still not as bad as a cold. Then my LFT finally said positive, and then my PCR. I was 18 weeks pregnant too. I'm still surprised how mild it was, although the majority will be like this! You hear about the worst cases on the news.

OliveTree75 · 05/09/2021 08:55

I had covid in march before my vaccine and I barely even noticed I had it. I have some other bug now (not covid, had a test) and I am wiped. Feel awful.
I was was hospitalised with flu a few years ago and that was a million times worse than covid for me.

Trinacham · 05/09/2021 08:56

Forgot to add, I'm also unvaccinated, for what it's worth.

Imnothereforthedrama · 05/09/2021 08:58

Just because you feel unwell with a cold doesn’t mean you will feel very ill with Covid . What a odd thing to say who knows how you will be with Covid . I’ve know most that have been just felt unwell like a cold but have been jabbed .

StarshipsAreMeantToFly · 05/09/2021 08:59

We've had similar in this house. My concern was what if the person got hit by covid during/just after it when their lungs were already working hard.

SmileyClare · 05/09/2021 09:07

Are you double vaccinated Op? Any symptoms if you caught covid now would be minimised by the immunity your vaccine provides.

I really wouldn't be anxious about it.

Hope you feel better soon Smile

Vickles20 · 05/09/2021 09:10

I think keep on testing

Scottishskifun · 05/09/2021 09:14

Its a bit pot luck!
I was very ill with covid (steroids had a ambulance etc) under 35 DH on the other hand was a bit tired and had a headache.

In contrast we now have a toddler cold and DH has been a lot worse. Immune system works by exposure many people haven't had colds in a long time which means they hit a bit harder when they do.

crazyguineapiglady · 05/09/2021 09:28

The tests aren't foolproof and false negatives are fairly common.

If you still have covid symptoms I'd test again. I know someone who had several negative lateral flows and a negative PCR, but ended up in hospital with covid and tested positive then.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 05/09/2021 09:55

i also felt terrible yesterday, negative lft
but we have been warned that there would be a rise in colds,
my dd came home with a terrible cough.

I was reading the thread thinking this. Where have you got the idea that there's any kind of correlation between the two

This winter we'll certainly see people die from flu who have previously had covid. One can't predict the other and there's no increasing scale of how rough you'lll feel

@crazyguineapiglady

I’ll do a lateral flow in a few days. I’ve done a PCR and it’s negative.
I don’t think false negatives are that common so I don’t see the need to have another PCR.

Yep. Double vaccinated.

It just depends on you. I have mild covid and no temperature at xmas. Around Easter I had a random bug and a temperature of 39.4.

Bobholll · 05/09/2021 19:54

Pot luck OP. I had covid in December, not jabbed obviously. I’ve had far worse colds. Since then, I’ve had 3 absolute shockers of colds. I have young kids, so it’s not uncommon to get ill a lot in our house. But these colds have wiped me out completely. I need steroids twice for more asthma support. Multiple PCR’s negative, including two in A&E done for me. They were just colds but awful ones. One hospital doc said it could be because our immune systems aren’t as prepped & ready this year following lockdowns & minimal social indoor interaction until March this year.. or another said possibly covid had left my immune system a bit weaker than normal. Neither are unrealistic assumptions!

Hope you feel better soon!

RavingAnnie · 05/09/2021 20:01

It could still be covid. Leave it a couple of days and retest. It took me two PCRs and two LFTs and 5 days before I got a positive test.

Tiddleandplonk · 05/09/2021 20:17

Test again. You may have tested too early.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 05/09/2021 20:53

It may be that it was too early to pick up in a test. If it's reassurance you want it's pretty much a bad cold for most, dragged on a bit for me as had symptoms for a week before tested negative then eventually positive. I've had worse illnesses, was certainly been worse with flu but was definitely glad to be double jabbed as would have been a lot worse that's for sure.

worriedatthemoment · 05/09/2021 21:00

Worrying people saying they have had to test multiple times as lets face if we get a negative and feel ok we will go back out or to work etc as can't stay in every time you get a cold for 10 days just incase

Payproblems · 05/09/2021 21:54

Op apparently when pcr is done it depends on viral load in nose, you may well have covid.

Jenster03 · 05/09/2021 22:02

Really bad viruses like that existed before covid, and exist today.
Covid isn't the worst virus out there. It could even be the 'nicest' for some people.

I really can't wait until covid starts being accepted as 'just another virus' and you're simply 'ill'.

DocAutumn · 05/09/2021 22:03

Unless you are particularly vulnerable you are likely to just have cold symptoms with covid. A huge number of people don't even have any symptoms. Most illness you could have would be worse.

Dandy008 · 05/09/2021 22:30

@Tiddleandplonk

Test again. You may have tested too early.
@Tiddleandplonk

It’s advised to test when symptoms start? So if the test was done when symptoms started how was this too early? It’s what most people would do.

My brother in law had Covid, he tested as he’d been in contact with someone.
His test was positive, his symptoms began a few days later!

worriedatthemoment · 06/09/2021 06:26

'@Dandy008 thats what i don't get and also advised fo test within so many days as well
People saying they ill for a week before testing negative ? i wonder if had another illness first like a cold then covid
I have a cold so far 2 negative tests , I only tested a 2 nd time as developed a fever a few days in , where as the beginning just a cough.
Im now out and about and aware that i could still catch covid and prob even more vulnerable as my immune system is down
Im feeling a lot better now but if my symptoms now got worse I would test again as it may be I have picked it up.
I wouldn't think its because it wasn't picked up at first just that i have had another virus also.

worriedatthemoment · 15/09/2021 07:35

We have all had colds in our house over about a 4 week period that have either been accompanied by a cough or a temp do have had to have covid tests, do far all negative
Ds18 has had a sore throat for couple days so we have been doing lvt to see and ao far negative, last night though developed a cough so now off for another pcr, though I suspect its the same bug thats been going around all us , we seem to of caught it twice each, its been a nightmare.
