My whole family had a meal together last Sunday which neither me or my 10 month old didn't attend, we did however go and see my mum (who was at the meal) the day after, however ever since then 1 by 1 my family members who attended the meal have all tested positive for covid with my sister testing positive yesterday (5 days after the meal). I have been testing myself each day and had a PCR however just as a precaution I've kept my 10 month old out of nursery this week, my question is what would you do next week should I keep him out of nursery of send him? I'm aware me doing tests and then being negative is different because I've had 2 jabs I just don't know what I should / shouldn't be doing with him, he's showing no symptoms I just worry as he spent so much time with my mum on that Monday having cuddles.

Has your Mum tested positive, and if so, how long after you'd seen her?

She did, she tested positive Thursday

I wouldn't have kept him off at all tbh, unless your mum was also positive. If you don't have to work / your work is very understanding and you want to keep him at home then go for it. But what would I personally do? I'd send him in. As far as you know he hasn't had any contact with a positive case.

Aaaaah X posted - your mum is also positive! Then, whatever the rules are for non vaccinated people. Is it ten days after contact? I think he has to isolate till then but I await correction!

Mindymomo · 04/09/2021 21:02

As a close contact with someone positive, it is recommended that your child get tested as well. I would have thought that the nursery will request a negative PCR test before he can return, although rules in uk have changed that under 18’s don’t have to isolate, nursery may have their own set of rules.

Kaffiene · 04/09/2021 21:06

Under 5s don’t need to isolate and only take a PCR if they show symptoms.

penguinparty00 · 04/09/2021 21:12

I didn't tell the nursery why he was off, would I need to based on them rules then or can I just send him as normal?

Anyone under 18 or double vaxxed doesn't need to isolate but it's recommended you have a PCR.

So you can make a choice what you do and do what you feel comfortable with.

dementedpixie · 04/09/2021 21:17

When did your mum get symptoms?
If it was more than 48 hours after you saw them on Monday then neither of you would be counted as a close contact anyway

Under 18s don't need to isolate and neither do you if fully vaccinated

So we saw her Monday then Wednesday afternoon through to Thursday morning she felt poorly then got tested that afternoon so probably on the verge of 48 hours

If in England no child under the age of 18y6m have to self isolate any more unless they have Covid themselves, or have symptoms and awaiting pcr results.
