Close colleague has just messaged to say a household member has had a positive LFT and is awaiting PCR. They have been ill since Wednesday but thought it was something else.

She's taking LFTs but we have been working together in a basically unventilated office.

I don't want to be a neurotic dick about it, but I have a vulnerable elderly parent for whom I'm sole carer, and a teenage daughter with her school prom, birthday and start of college in the next 10 days.

DD is with her dad this weekend and am wondering if I should suggest she stays with him for the next week, and avoid visiting my parent - they're not reliant on me for physical care, fortunately.

DD has one jab, parent and I double vaxxed although I'm CV on a couple counts and parent in CEV.

Keep DD at her dad's, no point risking further exposure. It sucks but that's what LFTs are for. Have you tested?

Not since Wednesday.

Weirdly I was feeling a bit meh about half an hour before she texted but I've just had an extended break from work so put it down to the shock to the system of going back, which tbf it probably is.

I'll do one tomorrow morning and make a call then. They're away for the weekend (postponed from last April) so don't want to set her worrying yet.

If colleagues family member hadn't already been symptomatic for 3/4 days I'd be less concerned...

If you can at work around things for a few days, then personally I'd do it - I'd knock myself if I passed it on knowing there was a chance I had it. Hopefully you're colleague will have a few by mid week if they've caught it and you'll then be able to take a PCR as a contact and continue LFTs.

If my parent gets it or DD has to miss her prom it'll be awful.

I had reservations about going back after my time off but have kept telling myself it was fine before when we didn't have vaccinations.

Can't believe this has happened straight off the bat.

This is the down side to people attending work and school unwell without a pcr test. I’d keep your daughter at her dads but unless they are fully isolating she could pick it up anywhere in reality before prom etc.

Yes absolutely. She's away in London this weekend...hotel, theatre, meal out, public transport. XHs partner is pretty fastidious so will be wiping down and antibaccing everything she can I'm sure.

Colleague has tested negative so far. If I'm also negative tomorrow will give her the option either way, same with parent.

Honestly I'm a bit baffled and disgruntled tbh that if someone in your household is ill for 3 days you wouldn't give them a boot up the bum to test sooner, given the current situation and work logistics.
