Can someone confirm that 16yo are due to only get one dose of the vaccine?

Has there been any studies at all in delaying the seond dose by months rather than the usual 8 weeks?

I want dc to have the jab (and so does he) but not if it means the second dose is delayed so much that he is never getting fully protected iyswim. Id rather wait util dc can get the two doses iyswim.

*My understanding is that the JCVI were concerned about the very slight risk to young men of myocarditis following the pfizer jab, as the risk is apparently somewhat higher after the second dose. I believe that they were trying to gather further data on this before deciding whether the potential risks of a second dose would outweigh the likely benefits, given that young people are already at a very low risk from covid itself.

I believe that they will conclude that the risk is minimal and that the second doses should be given, but we'll have to wait and see.*

I agree alexa but it will look very odd alongside the opposite decision for, say, a 15 year old, given the risk of myocarditis (in boys) following the jab is actually (very slightly) higher for 17-18 year olds than for younger teens.

There seems to be such a scattergun approach. I assume its based on the fact that the biggest spread in young people in June/July was in the year 12 age group. But that may well change looking at recent data where 10-14 seems to be biggest group.

The reasoning for the 9months is because of the requirement for the vaccine passport for adults. If they didn’t enable a 17/9 to have the first dose, they’d implicitly discriminate and have a requirement which actually could only be met by adults 10 to-14 weeks after they’re turned 18. I find it quite ridiculous. The thing is even more ridiculous because there’s such a difference and potential discrimination anyway between someone who sits the A levels at 17.5 and 18.5 years old. And in my motherly eyes it’s much more important to have health protection for studying than to go clubbing ;-)
