Positive PCR - anxiety

Just wondering if anybody suffered anxiety after receiving a positive PCR result?

I am really rather unwell but I think anxiety is making it worse. I am not ordinarily a very anxious person but I feel terrified. I know it's the media hype and I'm trying to stay rational and imagine I just have flu but I'm struggling to keep my head.

Anybody felt the same and have any tips to help me keep a level head please?

Sympathy as I am waiting for a test result and feeling stressed.
Are you vaccinated?

mermaidtales · 03/09/2021 18:03

Yes, I am double vaccinated.

Totally normal reaction I think. Focus on the positives. Do things that will take your mind off it.

SummerHouse · 03/09/2021 18:04

Double vaccination is a HUGE positive for a start!!!

My 85 year old friend sailed through Covid recently with almost no symptoms at all, , double vaxxed, so try to focus on the fact that you are highly unlikely to get very unwell.
I am telling myself the same !

My 88 year old great aunt had covid and after one week of mild illness - she is back to her normal self. You’re double vaccinated which really cuts risk. Try and stay positive! Grin

Scottishgirl85 · 03/09/2021 19:01

Forget it's covid, in reality it really doesn't matter what it is. You're unwell. And it's nothing like flu if you can type in sentences that make perfect sense. Hope you're better soon x

I’ll jump on this boat! Yes, feeling horribly anxious. DH tested positive this morning, the rest of us are awaiting our results. I’m feeling dizzy, nauseous and anxious and my chest is tight. Hope you’re ok op.

I’m sure it was the Zoe app where I read this, but apparently catching COVID when you’re double vaccinated can act similarly to a booster vaccine. I’ll see if I can find the article. That might help reassure you a little.

TweeterandtheMonkeyman · 03/09/2021 20:02

I’m on day 3 since my positive result. I was very shocked, seems slightly surreal to actually catch the famous, dreaded virus!
I’m double vaccinated, and while I don’t feel great (lying on sofa, aches and chills, cough and snot) , I’m obviously not in any danger of hospitalisation. I’m certain you won’t be either! Oh and the kids tested positive too and they are fine, leaping around 😂

Blackopal · 03/09/2021 20:06

I am a couple of days in after getting a positive result. My daughter had hers a few days earlier.

I do understand it is scary, after hearing so much about it over the last 18 months, when you actually get the positive result.

So far I feel unwell but have been more unwell with other illnesses before.
I am also double vaccinated and am trying to think of it as just being unwell rather than thinking of it as covid.

I am a single parent and am able to look after my poorly daughter and her sibling so am hoping it stays at this sort of level.
Good luck Flowers

Like all viruses, even flu can be mild or severe. It's a myth that you know you've got flu if you are bedridden. Infact most people each year who have flu are asymptomatic.
Siameasy · 03/09/2021 20:08

I’d rather catch it now than in the depths of winter or at Christmas
Presumably if you have it now you will be immune for a while?

AgnesNaismith · 03/09/2021 20:16

Yes that’s a positive I thought too @Siameasy better while we still have reserves of vitamin d!

Twilightstarbright · 03/09/2021 20:45

I’m on day 10 and I was terrified when I got my positive LFT and subsequent PCR. I’m CEV due to immunosuppressants and I was so anxious about being really ill and dying.

I’m on the road to recovery now, it wasn’t very nice but no worse than swine flu in 2009 or a nasty chest infection that needed antibiotics and steroids.

The media hype it up but it is a mild illness for the majority. By mild I mean not needing hospital.

OvertiredandConfused · 03/09/2021 21:07

I’m double vaxxed, CEV and had a positive PCR on Monday. My DH is about a week ahead of me and spent 24 hours in hospital earlier this week. He’s absolutely fine now - pumped full of drugs that have obviously worked.

I’ve been pretty rough all week and very anxious although I do feel better this evening. Just hope I don’t go downhill again after a week like my DH.

I’m focussing on how easily, and quickly, they were able to treat my DH and looking forward to being able to do stuff again when I’m recovered

OneSnowyDay · 03/09/2021 21:13

I've tested positive today too. I've been anxious but OK as it seemed like a cold but now the cough and pain in my chest has started and I'm really scared.

Same.

I was very unwell with Covid in January. I was extremely anxious throughout. I think it's hard not to be really, especially if you don't feel well at all.

You are double vaccinated - that is the best protection you can have.

Everyone I know who has caught it after vaccination has only had symptoms for about a week. It's hugely reduced the length of the illness from before vaccination illness times. The feeling rough and the worry won't go on too long.

Get a pulse oximeter. They're very good for reassurance if you are feeling breathless and knackered. DH and I spent many hours comparing heart rates and oxygen levels (but about 20 days of continuous isolation does do strange things to people 😂).

Rest as much as you can. I really do think that one of the key points of recovery from this virus is resting almost all the time and letting your body concentrate on healing.

I hope you feel better soon.
