Starting the term tomorrow with all staff ( about 250) in the school hall for INSET?

My DD is working in a school this week, testing all pupils before they return.
Only LFT but worth doing I reckon?

Eaumyword · 01/09/2021 21:45

Definitely worth doing LFT's - unfortunately I work in a primary, so not got that testing comfort from the pupils.
At least most of the staff do 2 x weekly LFT's, which gives a tiny bit of peace of mind.
I really feel our Head has gone from being so careful to the complete opposite, throwing doors open to parents to free range into the school office again. It is a shame, as we were as efficient if not more so in getting Q's sorted super fast by email/phone before but if that's what she wants...

I honestly can’t believe that we have gone from having to fill in a health and safety form to go up a ladder to basically letting a virus that has killed so many people let rip.

THIS

Ultimately it’s going to bite the education system on the backside.

HelloMissus · 02/09/2021 07:03

Is it up to each school how they proceed then?
The school DD is working in (private secondary) is testing everyone prior to return.
Staggered return of pupils to accommodate this.

ElleOhWell · 02/09/2021 07:04

DS starts back next week, LFT being carried out at school today and tomorrow.

motherrunner · 02/09/2021 07:07

Yes, except the part about dates. Our inset is Friday.

User5827372728 · 02/09/2021 07:25

Well good luck for today! I’ve got my hand sanitiser and mask packed 🤪

About to do my LFT- almost hoping it’s positive 😬

@QueenHofScotland

You would think they would look at the disaster that is Scotland and pull back a bit
And that's WITH Scotland not having dropped existing mitigations in schools.

Good luck to the OP and everyone else in this situation today. I'm kind of feeling a Hunger Games feeling.

User5827372728 · 02/09/2021 07:32

Ooh maybe my school is taking it more seriously than I thought… just got an email to pack my own mug for our coffee/tea 250 person meet up!

Oh and we can all sit together for 3 hours this morning but because of covid lunch can’t be provided!

Getawaywithit · 02/09/2021 07:34

Yep. It was clear to me yesterday that a significant number of staff, myself included, were very uncomfortable. It is a huge shift from July. And if one of us had covid, we’ll be closed by next Friday!

Yes! This is how we felt yesterday. Staff are still asked to do LFTs and of course hand washing and windows open but that is it now. It really does seem as though they want us all to infect each other. They are no longer concerned that our kids are in the main vulnerable/CEV either. I don't understand it.
KatherineOfGaunt · 02/09/2021 08:48

So true. We went from only being allowed in the staffroom on a certain day at a certain time with the rest of our bubble to suddenly being allowed to spend hours sitting talking to each other in a barely-ventilated hall.

HelloMissus · 02/09/2021 08:49

I’m interested to know what amazing holiday places nanny has found in the U.K. considering he’s repeated (endlessly) that he’s not leaving the house whenever possible Grin

quiteathome · 02/09/2021 08:57

Good luck to all teachers and school staff. I can only imagine how anxious you all are.

It is bad enough as a parent knowing that positive Covid households can send their children in. I am just waiting for a child to bring Covid home.

We do appreciate what you are all doing.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 02/09/2021 09:01

I'm not sure about staff but parents still aren't allowed in school here, no assembly, one way system for parents kids to come into school in pe kit still . Not sure if they are keeping to bubbles at play time Tec. Will find that out when they get back

beentoldcomputersaysno · 02/09/2021 09:05

Think it depends on head. Our head (I'm not a teacher) is happy for hepa filters - going to see if can fundraise for more, has asked primary to lft before starting school, not doing mixed class assemblies, staggered lunch, play, drop off, pick ups. She is aware covid hasn't gone away and is trying to minimise detrimental health impacts and disruption where possible. It's a bit of a lottery really - others will be saying we have to live with it, whilst not trying to make any changes, which is really just ignoring it.

FridayKiss · 02/09/2021 09:09

Annita McVeigh would like to hear about what schools are doing. I wonder if the media would be surprised to hear these stories of how 'everything is back to normal' 😬

What a joke 🤦‍♀️

HipTightOnions · 02/09/2021 09:17

Other than LFTs (all pupils invited for pre-return testing but I don’t know what the take-up has been like) we are completely back to normal.

100+ people for an hour in the hall first thing yesterday, then 20 of us cheek by jowl in our office for the rest of the day. No masks.

And our windows had been painted shut over the holidays.

FridayKiss · 02/09/2021 09:19

And our windows had been painted shut over the holidays.

What is wrong with people?! Surely all windows should be kept open - this has been publicised widely and is pretty much the only mitigation available to staff and pupils.

Absolutely.

We jemmied them open and moments later there were complaints that it was too cold!

squiddybear · 02/09/2021 12:55

Oohh I can join in!

Our CEO has decided that she will do face to face talks at every site (including visiting multiple sites on the same day). Everyone in the same room sat in rows with no distancing, no ventilation and no masks! This is all staff as well down to catering, facilities etc!

I don't know what could possibly go wrong!

DumplingsAndStew · 02/09/2021 13:39

@HipTightOnions

This boils my piss. The coldest part of the year since Christmas, the schools were closed (to most pupils at least). Our schools have only been open since mid-April. If it's cold in April, put on another layer.

User5827372728 · 02/09/2021 14:30

4 hours in sat in a hall with no ventilation with 200 other adults. However we must keep 2m distance from kids…!
