What a nightmare
We’re in our own property, so don’t need to move to Covid isolation hotel.
Just me tested positive so far but my son (13) kisses me 25 times a day so it’s doubtful he’s going to avoid it.

Don't know anyone, but was talking to the rep at the hotel in Menorca last week and she said they've had a few. She said so long as they took out insurance with them (jet2) then they have been looked after.

They were placed in isolation until fit to return and finances covered by the insurance.

That's the only risk assessment I considered when travelling , but the Spanish were very good with covid measures and cleaning.

Am I supposed to inform the authorities? British/Spanish, both? Get an official test ?

You can download the app and log it there but you don’t have to (but should) If you did it through a health centre it’ll be logged anyway. it won’t be logged with them if you did a nhs lateral flow test. You’ve been very unlucky to get it on holiday they’re only having about 7k cases a day.

Any positive LFT needs to be confirmed with a PCR. Not to mention home tests aren’t legally recognised in Spain. You need to contact your local health authority in Spain and ask for a PCR first.

myrtilles · 01/09/2021 17:26

Poor you. I do not have experience of this. However we went to Spain in July and I seem to remember that on the health form you fill in to enter Spain you have to say that you will inform the Spanish authorities if you have covid symptoms while you are away.

BoomChicka · 01/09/2021 18:12

I suppose being in your own property is the absolute best case scenario OP so I bet you're relieved at that bit.. not sure what the process will be other than cancelling your flight and getting a PCR if that's required in Spain? Plus sorting shopping.

Squidlydoo · 01/09/2021 20:09

I have an acquaintance who has just had to isolate in a resort after son tested pos for covid abroad. In total the family were away for 27 days as a few days after the son caught it, other family members tested positive, extending the isolation further! Nightmare!

Veuvelily · 01/09/2021 21:52

Yeah it was an nhs test I brought with me.
If my son doesn’t get it, I could send him home with my sister just in time for school.
If he gets infected by me we’re looking at extra time. He’s been the exact sane places as me. Actually made the effort to have a few days out last week. Or it could have been the plane?

No you can’t - close contacts still have to isolate in Spain by law.

Milkbottlelegs · 01/09/2021 22:45

Honestly,I wouldn’t inform anyone and would just see out the isolation period under the radar. Once you are getting clear LF tests you can do your pre-flight test, although you might still register as positive on your day 2 PCR test.

Veuvelily · 01/09/2021 23:07

Persephone- that’s the info I can’t find

Here you are, if you download the Google translate app you can input screenshots (and take photos of menus etc!)

Hope you’re not feeling awful Flowers

how long will it take for herr to have a clear LF?
Frazzled2207 · 02/09/2021 11:14

from what I understand nobody is actually bothered about the result of the day 2 test on return you just need proof of having ordered one. Ridiculous but good news for you.

In your shoes if your son tests negative I would definitely send your son back to the UK if a grown up can take him and look after him the other end, bearing in mind he might of course subsequently test positive.

PersephoneJames · 02/09/2021 11:59

Please don’t. I have to go to the UK for a weekend for an essential reason and if I test positive when there because someone broke the rules and sent their kid back who should be isolating on a plane, I’ll lose half a months salary and struggle to pay my rent.

The rules apply to Brits too, you know.

Veuvelily · 02/09/2021 13:41

If his 10 days isolation goes from when my symptoms started, he’ll be ok.
I wouldn’t put him in a plane if I thought there was any chance of him infecting anyone.
My mum is supposed to be coming out for her holiday, so she can’t look after him, my sister is going home, she could look after him, but has to work. He might as well stay here with me. He is bound to test positive soon.
He was negative again this morning.
I’ve had no fever and feel ok really, bit of head congestion.

It would be helpful to know how long for a clear test, but who knows? I guess everyone is different.

Do kids need to test to return?

You might be better settling with yourself that it's most likely a false positive and disregard the result.

Test yourself for return —perhaps scrape, but not too hard —and pray for negative. If you've brought any of the free NHS ones, you can do a few trials to see what the likely outcome is.

For the return, dose up with paracetamol & ibuprofen so to lower temp in case of any temp sensors. (Although they don't really seem to be doing any routine scanning from what I can see out here in Spain.)

Mask up tight for sake of transmission, and take return flight as normal. Then PCR on day 2.

Veuvelily · 02/09/2021 17:55

Only kids under 10 don’t need to test, he’s 13.

You can’t take your own test here and the clinic does a very thorough nose swab.

We’re due to take our return tests tomorrow, so will do an nhs one and if they’re clear we’ll get the official ones done. If not, then we stay put and change flights etc.
It’ll only be 4 days since positive test, but 8 since first earache which became a symptom
I doubt very much I’ll be clear

I don’t have a fever

Ah sorry. Didn’t check ages. The lateral flow tests have ~50%, so I’d hunt out that kind.
