Pregnant and double jabbed - how careful are you being?

I’ve looked for this topic and couldn’t see much on it.

I’ve had both jabs a while back and am fast approaching third trimester.

I am still going out with my toddler, but am still fairly careful.

Is anyone else in this position? How careful are you being? How do you deal with unvaccinated family/friends?

Double jabbed. I have been super careful, using N95 masks and hand gel all the time when going out (outdoor only!) and keeping distance with others. But still, tested positive just before delivery, felt rubbish on the day of delivery.

Thanks. I’m just concerned about catching it and putting my baby at risk or being unwell myself, but not sure how much that is mitigated by the jab

You’ve got as much protection as anyone else once double jabbed - so like 90% or whatever it is. I’ve been double jabbed and in 3rd trimester, I’m not licking peoples faces or anything but I’m living pretty normally.

I’ve been inside restaurants with friends, inside peoples houses, on the train without a mask (if it’s hot and not busy). Still making sure I don’t get too close to people and I am hand washing regularly etc and wear my mask where required, but I’ve been determined to enjoy my pregnancy too.

I will be isolating pretty much for 10 days before my c section though as advised, so that I can have my partner with me x

SmidgenofaPigeon · 01/09/2021 18:25

I wasn’t interested in isolating before I have my baby. That’s why I got both doses of the vaccine (the second I had three weeks ago)

I’m 37+3 weeks. C section at 39 weeks. Been to brunch, been shopping, getting my hair done, got a pedicure, coffee shops, basically carrying on as normal to enjoy my maternity leave. I’ll not get this time back and consider myself at a very low risk so I’ve just cracked on and enjoyed myself.

Just to ease your mind. It felt like having a bad cold. I had sore throat and running nose. My temperature wasn’t particularly high, but I was definitely feverish. The delta variant is quite tricky, my doctor told me that it’s not uncommon for double jabbed pregnant ladies to be Covid positive with the new variant. I was put on IV fluids drips and paracetamol, had continues fetal heart rate monitors, otherwise had a normal delivery with just gas and air. Having the vaccine definitely helped, even it’s not 100% protective.

I’m 30 weeks now and double jabbed. We’ve only done garden visits and are going to stop those soon when the weather turns.

I’ll go to shop but am super careful. I wish I didn’t worry so much but my lungs are squished now and I’d hate to find out what would happen.

You don’t know how well the vaccine worked or how covid will still effect you. I can’t wait until next year when my baby will be a bit older and I can stop worrying!

My midwife said to start being careful from 30
Weeks as that’s when your immune system really drops. I hadn’t heard that before though.

Third trimester, being very careful now. The RCOG guidance is that women should still be very careful in the third trimester and be attentive to social distancing etc. It is difficult to manage in the community as everyone else has been told social distancing is over! I find it really frustrating when in a shop etc someone is hovering over me maskless and I find it much more difficult to distance now restrictions have been lifted. I have just explained to friends and family that medical advice to women in third trimester hasn't changed -- they've all been understanding.

Samanabanana · 02/09/2021 08:50

Single jabbed here and close to DD. Still taking DC1 to play gyms/events/museums/friend's houses for play dates. Still going shopping/out for dinner. I wear a standard mask when iut in public indoors, wash hands regularly and always have sanitiser to hand but continuing to live life. More likely to catch covid when on the labour ward, surely?!

Bells3032 · 02/09/2021 09:01

18 weeks, fully jabbed before pregnancy. still being cautious - e,g only eating in restaurants outside, wearing masks everywhere. DH is back to the office today for a couple of days a week. He only has to take mainline trains though that have open windows etc and he's wearing FFP masks.

when I go back to work I'll have to use the tube which I am dreading but they don't seem in a rush

RavenclawsRoar · 02/09/2021 09:11

Double jabbed, third trimester. I'm a teacher and my school are no longer enforcing social distancing etc. Just hoping and praying the jabs do their job so if I do get it that it's not too bad.

sociallydistained · 02/09/2021 09:27

Not being particularly careful. I’m 19 weeks. I find it impossible to be in my job tbh. Seems to be around a lot at work. I can’t work from home.

mmhhhkkkk · 02/09/2021 18:50

Would you go to a wedding at 5 weeks ?

SmidgenofaPigeon · 02/09/2021 18:57

@mmhhhkkkk

At five weeks pregnant ?!

Apart from not drinking or smoking there’s really no need to not do anything at five weeks pregnant.

mmhhhkkkk · 02/09/2021 19:00

@SmidgenofaPigeon so it wouldn't harm the baby at that early stage if I got covid ? What about at 11 weeks ? Or is it only an issue in late pregnancy ? I've not really looked into it, clearly.

CTR1000 · 02/09/2021 19:07

26 weeks and still working on a Covid ward! Using PPE appropriately but given this I’m not being overly worried about anything else (still happy to get out and about/see people/do things).

Will probably be a bit more cautious in final trimester in fairness…

SmidgenofaPigeon · 02/09/2021 19:22

@mmhhhkkkk hopefully you’ve had at least one jab by now- not sure what age group you fall into.

No, at that stage it’s vanishingly unlikely that if you were very unlucky enough to be ill from covid it would have any impact on thé baby. Five weeks obviously can be a delicate stage in any pregnancy as it’s so early on but nothing you can really do to have much influence on the outcome either way. By 11 weeks you’d be double jabbed I would hope. The likelihood of being very ill and in hospital with covid and it being dangerous for the baby is predominately among unvaccinated women.

mmhhhkkkk · 02/09/2021 19:26

@SmidgenofaPigeon thanks for the info. I've been double jabbed since May, so hopefully that helps. Although all this talk about immunity waning, is making me nervous !
