Covid reactivating after 10 days?

Siameasy · 30/08/2021 20:48

Double jabbed, day 12 since +ve.

I’m now realising that it is generally expected that on day 11, you’ll be completely recovered all back to normal etc which I now think is really annoying because the 10 days is actually for quarantine.

On day 11 I went back to work (I felt okay so didn’t question it) and it really took it out of me. Today day 12 I have exactly the same symptoms that lead me to test in the first place:

Sore throat, tightness around ribs, sense of doom, sore eyes, warm feeling inside lungs and nose ie the feeling you’re getting a cold-maybe I am!

Just had a normal day out with today DD and feel awful, shattered.

Fortunately I’m off work now until next week so I’m going to take it easy.

My period is also late which probably isn’t helping.

I felt fine day 8 onwards and people will now be like “what do you mean you’re not completely cured after 10 days” because I think that’s become an expectation

Anyone else?

I think you're describing post viral fatigue. It should go away! If it doesn't you've got long covid.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 30/08/2021 20:57

When i had it, I was unwell for a number of weeks. I isolated for the ten days but was by no means better at that stage, and my employer didn’t expect me to be. My phased return later for a number of weeks before I felt well enough to go back full time, and they were very clear about me taking as long as I needed.

woodfort · 30/08/2021 21:06

Well if used to be 2 weeks isolation didn’t if and they only moved it down to 10 days because they thought that increased the amount of people actually complying. Wasn’t it also that at the 14 day period you could get out providing any temperature had gone? Ie some people just take a bit longer even if you’re no longer contagious.

I was fairly mildly ill in March 2020 with something that was pretty much textbook Covid / the variant at the time.
The second week was worse for the feeling of pressure on my chest and my breathing feeling a bit shallow. It wasn’t awful, on par with although a very different feeling to a normal cold, but it definitely (whatever “it” was) took about 2-3 weeks to shift.

ElephantandGrasshopper · 30/08/2021 21:12

Yes, I had a mild dose but the symptoms seem to linger, I seem to get waves of feeling tired and tight chested.

Siameasy · 30/08/2021 21:13

Thanks for replies
I felt normal on day 11-if I hadn’t I would’ve considered not going in but by midday at work I felt rough and by about 8pm I’d hit a wall.

I think the 10 days is good cos it forces you to take it easy. My symptoms weren’t too bad, if it wasn’t Covid I probably would’ve gone into work and pushed through.

However, it was a false sense of security so maybe 14 days would’ve been better after all!

Mine flared up and down for 3-4 weeks and then had another 4 weeks before I was back to normal.

If you're still this way by end of the week get signed off with post viral symptoms as I tried too much too soon and had a set back.

rookiemere · 30/08/2021 21:19

When I had what I think was it - March 20 so never got tested - I thought I felt better about Day7 but after a few hours wfh I had to admit defeat and take the rest of the week off.
The 10 day thing means you're unlikely to be infectious after that point, not that you should be well again.

Luckily I’m off work on leave for over a week and the kids are back at school!! I will definitely be taking it easy

Yeah, it can take considerably longer than 10 days. Rest as much as you can for the next couple of months, over exertion tends to bring on a relapse.

knittingaddict · 31/08/2021 08:29

The 10 days isolation to prevent spread and how ill youbecome with covid are too entirely separate things. We've been hearing about long covid almost since this started, so I'm not at all surprised that some people are feeling bad for longer than 10 days.

I think I had it back in january/February 2020 and 2 to 3 weeks later almost saw the doctor as I thought I might have a chest infection. My husband still has some after effects from it.

mistermagpie · 31/08/2021 08:34

I'm on day 7 from the onset of symptoms today, I am feeling generally less fluey but still with a tight chest and exhausted. I have basically been getting better over the past two days but this has made me realise I shouldn't be overdoing it yet!

ACreakingGateNeverStops · 31/08/2021 08:34

It sounds like you've gone back to work too early. Always happens to me too. You feel better after an illness, you over exert yourself, you feel rough again from over doing it.

It's not specific to covid.

IMO it's just your body telling you it needs a bit longer to rest.

User56439876 · 31/08/2021 08:41

This is not exclusive to covid and is from doing too much after an illness, I got it with a very bad flu where I was off for about 6 weeks, went back to work as I had been not too bad for the previous few days and then was off Ill for another week and it was like the flu had come back. You definitely need to carry on resting.

PurplePumpkinDream · 31/08/2021 08:51

Glad it’s not just me. End of 10 days isolation but not well, still annoying dry cough, if you don’t cough up green or yellow they won’t give you antibiotics. I doubt it the GP would want to listen to my chest, anybody consulted their doctor or 111? I guess we just need to wait and see?

Siameasy · 31/08/2021 12:19

I haven’t contacted a doctor as it does sound like this isn’t uncommon. Hopefully it will improve with rest as I feel absolutely awful! Had a restless night and disturbing dreams and feel permanently sick with a foul mouth taste.

I had bad flu in ‘99 and my work pressured me to return after 3 weeks and I had post-viral fatigue then. So I’m not going to take any risks

I was so wiped out after I had covid, I went for short walks around the block and gradually increased. It took about 5 weeks to feel fully back to normal.

I was prescribed inhalers, brown and blue, it seemed to help me. GP did a phone consultation and said see if it helps, of it does continue, if not stop.
Quartz2208 · 31/08/2021 13:20

I think you are mistaking the infectious period with feeling better.

You have pushed yourself I think because you think 10 days in and that it is. Its actually fairly common for all viruses to have peaks and troughs depending on how much you push yourself. This is your body telling you you have overdone it. So rest.

Echobelly · 31/08/2021 18:11

I think it can come and go for longer. I'm fairly sure I had COVID right at the beginning before testing was widely available, which consisted for memainly of headache/serious fatigue - it came and went a few times for just over a fortnight.

Rest for a while longer OP, and hope you feel better soon.
