DS possible long covid

DS19 had COVID at the end of June whilst at uni. He's been home since the start of July and is still totally exhausted most of the time.

He is sleeping well but only has to do one short thing, like walk 10 mins to the shops and back and he is shattered (he used to run 5k a couple of times a week).

He spoke to a Doc who basically said he's recovering from covid but it's been 2 months and he's due to go back to Uni in 3 weeks and I'm worried about how he's going to cope.

Anyone been in the same position and have any advice please?

I'm sorry but he may not cope. My DD ended up off work for 5 months. She only started getting better once she had the vaccine (apparently this is quite common). She still isn't 100% now over a year after she had covid.

Sorry to hear about your daughter. He had his first vaccine about a month ago and is due his second mid-Sept which hopefully will help.

I hate to think of his second year being fecked up after the past 2 years being so crap.

Tell him to rest as much as possible. Long Covid tends to relapse if you exercise, or try to do too much on the days when you feel a bit better. For the first few months, stick to less than 1000 steps a day if possible, then increase very gradually.
A good night’s sleep every night, a healthy diet with plenty of lean protein and green veg, avoid sugar and processed junk food. Ditto avoid alcohol.
I began to improve after a year, and my second Pfizer shot. I still have relapses but they’re not as bad, and I can walk up to 4 miles on a good day.

Hello, I'm sorry to hear this. I've had long covid for 16 months and it occurs as relapses (negative pcr tests though). Mostly fatigue and headaches.
When I was in recovery mode, I was advised to rest to the point of not even reading or watching TV. Just purely focusing on rest and emptying my mind. It was a weird concept as I though watching TV was ok. It really helped and I have gone back to work. When the pain flares up, I try not to do too much physical activity as it sets me back. When I feel OK, I take gentle exercise (walking and stretching).
I'm sure your son will be able to cope, but I'd strongly advise he speaks to someone at uni. I had a risk assessment made for me at work, so people do take it seriously.
I wish him all the best at uni Smile
