Who isolates?

Sorry bet there have been millions of these!
LO got ill, fever and slight cough. Did PCR, very difficult to do but came back negative.
DH has 2 days after LO got ill, developed a new and (very) persistent cough and a temperature. He has taken a PCR.
I am fine. I have taken a PCR.

Can LO go to nursery?
Can I go to work? I'm double jabbed.
DH is currently isolating in DSC's room.

Anyone with symptoms and anyone awaiting test results? Whoever is positive has to isolate.

superking · 30/08/2021 19:38

Yes your DC can go to nursery, and as she has had a negative PCR after her own symptoms I would send her in. Yes legally you can go to work as double jabbed. Personally I would wait for the results of your PCR and maybe even your husband's too - but that depends on your work's policy and whether you can feasibly wfh in the meantime.

DH has symptoms and is awaiting test results

I have no symptoms, awaiting PCR results

Thanks @superking that was what I was thinking but was doubting myself as it seems like such a change from the old rules.

I would wait and see what both your results are before sending LO back to nursery. Is LO still displaying symptoms? If so it may be worth retesting.

IWasBornInAThunderstorm · 30/08/2021 19:50

No LO was ill for 24 hours

(ish). Back to their normal bouncy (not sleeping!) Self

I would just wonder if their test was accurate as it's so hard to do on little ones. You'll probably get your results overnight. I would put this on your workplace and see what they want you to do.

IWasBornInAThunderstorm · 30/08/2021 20:11

Ahh I didn't think of that. I assumed if it was a negative it must have worked. Good idea. I'd hate to send LO in to nursery only to have her spread covid. We'll all isolate until DH's and my tests come back. Unless work want me in. Thanks everyone.

The issue is the incubation periods and timings of the covid tests makes it really ease to still go out and spread it. My friends DS tested positive on a LFT so they all went for a PCR only his was positive but 4 days later her other DS came down with symptoms so tested him and he was positive although neither of their symptoms lasted very long.

IWasBornInAThunderstorm · 30/08/2021 20:37

I guess also it's possible LO doesn't have it but DH does and could have it given it to us.

It's possible your lo has since caught it so I would stay home tomorrow unless results are back

If the test is not well done then you get a “sorry we couldn’t get enough sample you’ve to retest” email and text. We got one with my son the first time we did the test
kirinm · 31/08/2021 07:54

I assume all of the people suggesting not sending DC to nursery despite having a negative test either don't work or their work have no issue with taking time off without notice.

You don't need to and shouldn't continually test your small child if they've had a negative test. Cold symptoms last a while. That's what happens with a cold. Doesn't mean you should constantly subject them to a PCR.

I would be taking your child into nursery and also going to work.

Where do you live? I believe the rules are different, and you are getting answers for England.
