Will school trips abroad go ahead?

DC supposed to be going on two trips this coming academic year- wonder if they will be going ahead. One is scheduled for Autumn the other is a ski trip in Jan.

It seems the former one might be as it is for sixth form and they can possibly be vaccinated before it goes. If they all get the second dose that is.

It’s interesting isn’t it, I hope they do for your DC’s sake.

My DC is younger than yours and is meant to be going on a residential in October, just for two nights. I’m wondering whether that will even go ahead, as the idea of 8-10 in a dormitory seems a bit much.

I suppose we’ll have to wait and see how going back to school impacts the case numbers, and if so what if any measures the government reinstate.

Here’s hoping for the best.

I would assume any overseas trips won't, not because of what this government decides, but because we are seen as the Covid sick person in Europe and the countries concerned may not let you in.

As a teacher I'd be pretty apprehensive of taking students abroad at the moment. What happens if a student gets covid? They'd have to isolate before travelling home, but this would add ages onto the trip and someone would need to stay with them - there would be no way to get them home as you couldn't cross the channel without using public transport. At least in the UK it would be easier to get them back to their parents and they could recuperate at home.

I agree with flagfiend. It might technically be possible, if other countries let us in.

But from an organisational and planning point of view it will be an absolute nightmare. It’s very different to deciding you’ll take the risk of an extended 10days on a family trip.

I honestly can't imagine the insurance being available, at least at a cost most schools would be happy to pass on, and that's before the issues raised above. Also, schools would have to decide super soon if they are, as these things take a lot of planning (and time given for parents to pay), and it doesn't feel as if we are at a point where many schools would be happy to do so.

DS is supposed to have 2 this year he would love to do as well - rugby and skiing - but is largely resigned to them not happening.

DS was due to go Austria skiing feb half term 2022. Received an email from school at start of summer holidays to say it won’t be happening.

We have to have plans in place a year in advance for foreign trips, which means I won't even consider a trip until summer 2023 after seeing what the new academic year brings us.

These have been planned for ages, booked last year I think. Well just have to wait and see I guess.
