Hi everyone My family have had a snotty nose and are very chest . I haven’t had any symptoms however have today tested positive for Covid on a lateral flow. I am going for a pcr first thing in the morning. I am petrified as I have asthma too. Has anyone had Covid that has asthma and can share their experiences please

I have asthma, only recently better controlled and with only 64% lung function due to other health factors. I'm here and survived. Please try not to panic too much. Easy to say I know. When I got the positive test I had a period of utter panic.

It didn't seem to affect my asthma to a point where I needed my ventolin more than once in the 10 day isolation period. I had a day or two of a feeling like a band was around my chest but it passed. I had phizer vaccinations in Jan/March.

I hope you're ok.

Do you take brown steroid inhalers, might be a good idea to take these now to the maximum. If you do test positive, you can get additional steroids to help with breathing, if you are having trouble. So ring gp or 119 if you need to.

I tested positive on lateral flow last week, positive pcr the next day and I thought "oh no here we go." I'm on pink fostair inhalers, overweight, not very fit, but double jabbed. I had what felt like the start of a cold - headache, scratchy throat... then nothing. I feel completely normal with 7 days isolation left to go. Take care OP!

both dds have.

Dd2, qvar and salbutamol her asthma was fine but she was quiet unwell.

Dd1, flutiform medium steroid dose and salbutamol. Her asthma has been affected it's still not right now. She followed her asthma plan so doubled the flutiform to 4 puffs twice a day and took salbutamol every 4 hours. I also kept an eye on her hr and oxygen levels which did drop. She didn't need steroids.

If you don't have an asthma plan contact your dr and ask if it's ok to double your inhaler, depending on your inhaler you might not be able to do that. I couldn't because I'm MART so if I doubled my prevebter doses I wpuldn't have enough doses left to use it as a preventer.

I have asthma and take steroid preventer inhalers. I had a positive pcr 8 days ago. First thing is, try not to panic. I did, which is natural I guess but I have not really had any breathing difficulties. I have a had a cough but really quite mild, shivering/ sweating and achey like flu, headaches and around day 5 I felt a little bit chesty but only for 1 day. From day 1, I doubled my inhaler as per my asthma plan. If you’re worried call your GP for advise but main thing is don’t let your imagination run like I did, try to rest if you can and take it easy.

Had it twice pre vaccine. First time was pretty awful but I didnt get covid pneumonia. Second time was like a bad cold.

Use your brown inhaler if you have one and let your gp know. They may prescribe steroids if it goes to your chest.

Thankyou everyone I’m going to ring the doctor in the morning , currently feeling weak and aches with occasional shortness in breath, not sure if that is through worry

Just waiting on pcr results as I have now had five lateral flow tests that have all came back positive

DH and DD both lft negative but we have all had pcr this morning .

I am double jabbed, mild to moderate asthma (clenil and a long term reliever inhaler daily).

I had covid 7 weeks ago.

Fairly mild covid, sore and blocked nose, and quite tired, but no cough, temperature or headache.

Two weeks later, I started to feel more unwell, eventually went to the doctors and was prescribed antibiotics for a chest infection. Two weeks later, I have just been prescribed a dose or oral steroids, but they've kicked in already and I'm good now.

No worse than a bad cold, tbh, but I just didn't catch the infection quick enough because I assumed it was still the virus.

Wasn't scary though at any point. Just a nuisance.

My BIL suffers from asthma and had to test twice weekly at an early stage due to his job. He tested positive on a LFT and said he noticed he was more breathless the day before and had put it down to his asthma. He didn't get any worse, funnily enough his DW and two older DC caught it and were worse than him.

user0985238 · 30/08/2021 20:11

My colleague with asthma had it and she had a cough for a while and felt a bit rough but no worse than with a normal cough.

RestingPandaFace · 30/08/2021 20:16

I tested positive about 4 weeks ago and have quite severe asthma (fostair and tiotropium controlled) I found myself slightly short of breath and using my ventolin more regularly but was really surprised how well I shrugged it off.

So grateful to have been vaccinated before I caught it.
