Wales- our local authority is keeping restrictions in secondary schools, is that the case in other places?

We have just had a letter from the secondary school and it's masks in corridors, year bubbles, lunch at desks.. pretty much the same as last term. Is that the case in other areas?

I am glad cause I can't see how going back to normal in schools will work, it'd just spread like wildfire.

Interesting. I hope that's what my area does. I'm very concerned as at the moment the only thing being done is lateral flow test on first day and then asking the pupils to do 2 a week after that (secondary). In primaries it appears nothing is being done at all. All back to normal.

CeeJay81 · 29/08/2021 14:53

Our primary seems to be back to normal too, as we haven't heard, only a letter at the end of last term saying just that. Will you wait and see what does actually happen though.

I wish all schools would keep those limited restrictions, it is going to be hideous when schools go back.

Filterphobia · 29/08/2021 16:52

Which county are you in? I’m in Wales and haven’t heard anything yet about our boys primary but I was wondering what the situation would be when they go back. I guess we will get an email on Wednesday or Thursday when they are back in.

Wales here too, and I work in schools in one county and kids at secondary in another. I do hope these measures stay too. Where is this?

RavenclawsRoar · 29/08/2021 17:41

SW England here. I work in a secondary school and we are going back as normal. The only thing staying is asking everyone to do twice weekly LFT. Glad I'm double jabbed as I'm in my third trimester and quite worried!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 29/08/2021 17:52

Not here, but it should be really. For half of term 1 as a minimum to get through the post summer shitstorm.

CeeJay81 · 29/08/2021 18:11

It's Powys. It's only the secondary doing the measures, primary seems to be normal. Hopefully it helps stop it spreading so much. Maybe it's school specific but I know someone with kids in a diff school and they told me about the masks, so I'm not sure.

I’m powys too and the letter from the council is for all schools- primary and secondary. No more staggered starts, uniform to be worn, breakfast and after school clubs to operate but all other measures to remain. They will slowly drop the remaining restrictions as they feel it is safe.

CeeJay81 · 29/08/2021 18:46

@Internetio I see. Will see how it goes then, think they might have to keep the restrictions for a while.

@CeeJay81 I suspect we won’t see any ‘normality’ before Christmas tbh. Rates are high here even in a rural community, the kids are basically going back to a COVID party as it is with all the school buses! I feel like a sitting duck wondering who brings it home first tbh Confused

justasking111 · 02/09/2021 16:55

I'm hoping rates settle down now the tourist season has eased off

toomuchlaundry · 02/09/2021 17:13

Not in Wales, but our school is keeping masks in communal areas, and have asked contacts to do PCR. If they don't want to do PCR they need to stay at home for 10 days

FflosFfantastig · 02/09/2021 17:53

Ours (primary) have dropped all measures they had previously. Every single one. You still have to wear masks at drop off though.
