Had covid and doubled jab, but caught Covid again?

Does anyone know of any cases where this has happened.

I had Covid last October and I’m doubled jab, had my last Jab in May.

I now have Covid symptoms again, I’ve lost my sense of smell and taste! There’s obviously a good chance it’s a different virus but the loss of taste and smell has only happened when I caught Covid.

There are cases where people’s bodies don’t hold on to the vaccine or antibodies.

You are clearly one of them

Last October is nearly a year ago, so yes you could have caught this new variant,

lannistunut · 29/08/2021 13:02

You need a covid test, because it could be that you have caught it again.

Bugger, I hate the thought of another isolation! I have my PCR later so I’ll know for sure.

This happened to my colleague. Her symptoms were very mild though, just a cold really, and she only realised she had Covid as she was doing twice weekly LFTs for work. A positive LFT was then confirmed by a positive PCR test. My brother also caught Covid despite being double jabbed, but his symptoms were a bit worse. My understanding is that you can definitely catch Covid despite antibodies from previous infection and/or a vaccine, but the symptoms will be less severe than without any protection.

Among the hundreds of millions of people who have had Covid, then had two vaccines, it would be truly astonishing if not a single one of them every caught Covid again.

Both infection and vaccination provide a good level of protection against contracting Covid, but neither is 100%.

That's not always true unfortunately. There's someone in India who had asymptomatic covid in November, got fully vaccinated, caught symptomatic alpha three weeks later and then caught delta 15 days after that and was hospitalised with it.

Yes, exactly that happened to my friend!

openupmyeagereyes · 30/08/2021 12:57

How are you OP? Have you had your PCR results yet?

ilovebagpuss · 30/08/2021 13:45

Being vaccinated doesn’t stop you catching Covid! It reduces the likelihood and should reduce the severity of symptoms that’s is all.
